New CPU boost gaming?

I'm currently running an Intel 2.4C (running at 2.4ghz), 1g of ram, XFX 6600GT. I want to get a better boost in gaming but everything but my cpu is new. If i do upgrade, it will be to 3.2ghz P4. Do you guys think it will boost my gaming significantly?

I am aware that AMDs are better for gaming but at the time i was building this rig, there was a sale on P4s i couldn't pass up...

Thanks.

What's the cost on the upgrade?

Have you tried to overclock that 2.4C? If you have even remotely decent memory you should be able to hit 2.8 +

using the same videocard, its probably not worth it to upgrade unless you can get most of the cost back through the selling of the p4+mobo

Cost of it is gonna be $150...I know some people who can get me a good deal...and no i haven't OC it. Stock fan running on it w/ some artic silver...

I bought a pair of AGP vid cards:

Leadtek Geforce 6200 128mb (Rivatuned to a vanilla 6600)
ATI Radeon X700 Pro 256mb

I under-overclocked my P4m to 2.4ghz (200 FSB, mem 3-3-3-8 dual, PAT enabled on P4P800):

3Dmark: 2001SE v330 -- 2003 v360 --- 2005 v1.2
-------------------------------------------------------------
62@6600 -- 11968 ----------- 4891 --------- 1858
X700 Pro -- 15824 ----------- 6827 --------- 2970

The key here is I cranked my P4m back to 2.82ghz (235 FSB x 12, mem 3-4-4-8) and the 3Dmark2005 v1.2 score became 3023. The memory timings were loosened slightly but a gain of 400+ mhz only netted 53 3dmarks. The big difference seems to be in the vid cards.
