How much are 6800xt's going for these days? I saw a BFG 7600gt for $100 in Hot deals under the newegg sticky.

Even if you're just doing light overclocking, you should look into an aftermarket cooler for more effective and silent cooling.

I wouldn't say thats neccesary. I WOULD replace the stock TIM with AS5, but a whole new cooler for light ocing? Not neccesary. And noise toleration varies from person to person.

About the vid card, Here's how it slots into the lineup.... wish I could do an HTML table...
we've got
v=vertex shaders
p=pixel shaders
r=raster pipelines
@=GPU/Mem speed
b=Mem bit width
MB=Mem amount

X1950 XTX: 8v 48p 16r @650 256b512MB@1000 $450
X1900 XTX: 8v 48p 16r @650 256b512MB@775 $375
X1900 XT : 8v 48p 16r @625 256b256/512MB@725 $280/$350
X1950 Pro: 8v 36p 12r @575 256b256MB@690 $200
X1650 XT : 8v 24p 12r @575 128b256MB@675 $150
X1650 Pro: 5v 12p 4r @600 128b256MB@700 $100
X1600 XT : 5v 12p 4r @590 128b256MB@690 $???
X1600 Pro: 5v 12p 4r @500 128b256MB@400 $???
X1300 XT : 5v 12p 4r @500 128b256MB@400 $89

It slots into the lineup nicely, and the 24 pixel shaders and 12 raster pipes ought to distinguish it nicely from the rest of the 1600/1650 family, but the 128-bit memory bus might be an Achilles heel especially when it comes to AA.
(I copied this table from someone, they posted it in a comment on DailyTech's RV560 article.)

I'd definately say that a 7300LE is light for a heavily multimedia machine, but by no means am I an expert on vid cards.

This 6800XT was $102.00. XFX. But... if there really is a 7600GT for 100....

Agreed, except not going with a dual-core processor for a primarily multimedia machine is crazy. For $78 more, you can nearly double the performance in any multimedia app: AM2 X2 4200.
