right now i have a abit be6, celeron 300a

i have 6 IDE devices in my computer

looking for a board that has 4 ide ports or ill just use a card if i have to, anyway

my question is
what should i get

mobo
processor
video card
ram

thx guyz

maybe i should give more info 🙂

im planning to spend about $1000
total
monitor, mouse, ect
basicly new puter

Will the monitor be LCD or CRT? With a $1000 starting out, I would decide that first and then move to the other components.

Here is a thread from yesterday from someone looking to build with the same budget as you. Maybe it will give you some ideas.

crt
im guessing, ill spend about

monitor $200
keyboard mouse $50?
sound card $100 ish or if it has onboard sound use that??
nic $20? or onboard
HD $200

$570

so that leaves me with $430
can i get the rest with that?

case dont matter, gonna try to build a plexi one-

AMD ATHLON XP 2500+ "Barton" $88
ABIT NF7-S $115
Buffalo Technology 512MB $89.50
Thermalright SK-7 $19.99
Panasonic Panaflo Axial Fan 80x80x25.5mm (H1A) $8.00
ATI OEM SAPPHIRE RADEON 9800 128MB Non Pro $254.00
Logitech Cordless Elite Duo - RETAIL $49.99 (AR)

= $528.49 + shipping

Just add your favorite monitor (19 inch CRTs are around $200). I really like my Phillips B43 btw.

Not sure what kind of Hard drive you're looking for, but I'm perfectly happy with my 80 gig WDJB and an old 40gig maxtor... But, as far as the basic computer I'd go with the above.

Note, those prices are from Newegg.com, you might be able to find them from other reputable resellers (check them on resellerrating.com first) so you could save a few $ there too.

You can get a Promise Ultra133TX2 card with 2 more ports for about $30, though if 4 of those are small hard drives it might make more sense to buy 1 - 2 120GB drives, copy all the files, and sell all the little drives off.

Also, modestninja's parts list looks good.
