c) How much an FX5200 sucks.

OLD RIG:
Pentium 4 2.8ghz
DDR 512mb
FX5200
WinXP Pro
etc.

NEW RIG:
Q6600 2.4ghz
DDR2 4gb
8800GTX
X-Fi Xtremegamer Fatal1ty
Vista HP 64-bit (i can't shutdown lol)
etc.

Quake 4 Before
Quake 4 After
Oblivion Before
Oblivion After
FEAR Before
FEAR After

Yeah. Holy CRAP right? I am one happy customer right now. :D

I remember 5200 like it was yesterday :!

Your not the only one with the FX5200.. theres like about 2million who bought that card.. and i bet some if not MOST are still using to this day!

Taking "night and day" to a whole new level? more like taking the term "upgrade" to a WHOLE new level or two.. or three?

Enjoy!

edit - lol @ the resolution with the old rig

Haha, nice upgrade. I did something similar to you just recently.

1.5 GHZ Willy P4
768MB PC-133
FX5900SE

to

3 GHZ Core 2 Duo 6600
4 GB PC-6400
8800 GTX

The games look so much better =)

Lol, how can you live with your rig that long, dude those screenshots looked craptacular!!! At those resolutions, with everything set on low, did you even get decent FPS? I know I couldn't play qauke 4 or oblivion on those settings :p

Even had you just added more ram and a faster AGP vid card, you would have been astonished. :) The 5200 was already junk the day it hit the shelves. No offense Knobjockey.

I still love my 9800PRO....

All graphic cards are OVERPRICED like it was with CPU's, but that not retailer's fauls.
NVidia needs more agressive ataks from AMD-ATI or new company will do it .....
$600 for card??? are you kiding me?

I'm thinking of getting 1950xt or pro. But maybe I'll wait for "true" midrage ati/nvidia cards.

Funny!
Looks like you might have a bit more to do, try setting AA and ASF! Your new eye candy will be even sweeter!

Wow...congrats on your upgrade! I'm in almost the same identical boat as you... o_O

I currently have:
1.6ghz Pentium M Banias (about equivalent to ~2.4ghz P4 I'm thinking)
768mb DDR 333mhz
FX 5200 32mb
This system is also having problems with overheating etc...

I plan to upgrade in Sept to the following:
Q6600
4gb DDR2
8800 GTX/Ultra
64-bit Vista

But man, I must say...your screenshots have given me a lot of hope. I'm wondering at what FPS all your games are running...especially Oblivion on such high settings. And is that really a screenshot of Quake on low textures? It looks worse than the original Doom/Wolfenstein. o_O

Probably faster than with his old system, and still looks like it does in screenshots. I know I played on core2 e6300/1900gt Oblivion and @ 1650X1080 was still pretty smooth, but not all high options enabled. And the best part is that doesn't even show how beautiful Oblivion is, just shows some walls :)

Those screenshots of Oblivion and F.E.A.R. on the FX 5200 hurt my eyes, ha ha. Quake 4's latest patch comes out with an option for static lighting so you can make it look even worse, ha ha, but I guess you won't need to anymore!

Nice upgrade!
