New Computer won't Start! Help!!

(i'm gonna repost this in Mobo's just cuz I don't know if it's a CPU or Mobo problem)

I just build my new system... and it doesn't boot... Here's what I did... (or at least me and a friend). It is a Asus A7N8X Deluxe, with 512mb Crucial DDR2700. I have the ThermalTake Volcano 9 with the Cool Mod attatched. It has a 350 Watt Power Supply.

Anyways... we installed the processor in the mobo, with thermal paste and the HSF... the RAM, and installed it into the case... Plugged it in, with the fans and everything.... When I turned it on, all the fans turn on, the case lights go on... but after about 5-8 seconds, it shuts down all by itself...

When we removed the processor and turned it on... the fans turn on and stay on, it doesn't shut down at all.

None of the times we turn it on did the motherboard "beep."

Could it be the mobo or the CPU? or even the RAM? I've heard people having problems with Crucial 2700... but I thought it was fixed... Any clues?

I mean like... nothing boots at all. What could keep it from doing anything? in the Asus A7N8X board, most of the problems people were having were with updating and stuff, I can't even get that far...
 
i have not heard of any fix for the crucial pc2700 and the a7n8x.

try another stick of ram.

also make sure the heatsink is seated correctly since the board has COP and shuts down when the heat is too great.
 
I'm pretty sure that it's not the Heatsink's problem, because we tried it over and over again... and the wait-time (between startup and auto-shut down) was consistant... If it was a heat problem, the time should have gotten shorter... since the Processor would get hotter as it went along...

Would it do that if the RAM was bad? From what I read in the manual, I thought it was supposed to be a certain number of times if the RAM was bad... But it never beeped at all. (The troubleshooting begins at 1 beep... lol, I didn't even get one.)
 
try to isolate the problem by testing things one by one.

since we know it's not the heatsink, try to borrow a stick of ram to test.

then i would try the power supply. is it generic?

It's the one that came attatched to my Volcano 9. it came as a big combo... so I don't know exactly what's the heatsink and what's the fan......

Yeah, it's the one that came with the case... but everything turns on... *shrug* I don't think i can call it the power supply yet...
 
is there any way to check if my CPU is working besides putting it into another computer?

my friend who helped me install said he thought it might be the CPU. I have no clue personally... usually stuff works pretty well for me.
