New Computer wont Post!!!

Alright, so I'm building a budget system for my cousin here,

-Soyo SY-KT600 Plus v2.0 motherboard
-Duron 1.6g
-Asus FX5200 128MB Video
-Maxtor 80GB
-Kingston 512MB PC3200
-Aopen CD-RW

Get everything put together, fire it up, it turns on, no beeps, no video, nothing. Checked all my connections, my jumper settings, tried again. Nothing. huh. So I start unplugging things, I'm left with just the video card and ram, and still nothing. So I swap in my Ti4200 video card from my computer and my memory.. nothing. Power up my computer using the new video card and memory, and bam it works just fine. Sooo great. It looks like a problem with either the mobo or CPU, right? I've replaced both of those, and I'm still getting the same f'ing problem!!! 😡

So I checked soyos website, they have some compatibility issues with GeForce FX cards, but I don't have anything but my GeForce 4 card and my brothers GeForce FX5700 card to maybe try it with.

I dunno.. I'm at a loss here guys.. any ideas?

Thanks.

you didn't mention Power Supply?

what power supply are you TRYING to use?

and what are the rail ratings?

LOL!

Looks like it a "Rosewill 350w" aka who knows? I good 350 psu should run that without even working.

Triple check your connections and sit back and look over everything one more time. No beeps at all is weird. You should be able to test the mobo without a videocard I think. Just ram and CPU.
good luck

well, I just stuck the p/s from my computer in there, and it didnt do shit. Time to play swapy CPU-y and see what that yields us. 😡

I chose it cause it was on sale.. it was that or a PC Chips board.. lol.

So, I put my brothers chip in this new computer, and the new chip in my brothers computer. Brothers computer posts up just fine, new computer doesn't.

Diagnosis.. stupid f'ing motherboard again. :|

Now. The Soyo "troubleshooting to the max" section of their little pamphlet users guide says one of the problems could be " Remove the M/B from the case and test the system. The M/B might be shorted to the case." What are the chances of that REALLY being the case here? If I wanted to test that, would I just pull the entire motherboard out and set it down on an anti-static bag and plug the power in? Seems a little ridiculous to me, but then again, so does 2 motherboards in a row being messed up from the factory. :|

Will this work? Anybody? I dont want to make another trip to the computer store tonight and get ANOTHER mother board if its a problem with the case itself...

Have you checked for a bios upgrade, and is it set at the right speed et al 100/133 etc fsb? You may be able to replace cpu long enough to flash bios to latest and see if it works

I read your post wrong, sounds like the MB is bad, I had a new soyo i had to have replaced last year that was bad out of the box, I wont make that mistake again with SOYO.

But to answer your question, Yes you should take the MB out of the case with CPU/MEM/Video card only and see if it will post.

There is a BIOS Upgrade, but I can't update because I can't get anything to happen when the system is powered on. No video, no beep, nothing. 🙁

EDIT: just caught your edit, thanks.

I always prop mine on something non conductive, hook to power supply and monitor, you will be one step closer to taking it back anyways, by removing it.

Sigh. Well, its the motherboard, still no POST after pulling it out and trying it that way.. no dice. So off to Frys return line for the 3rd time in 24 hrs. :|

Bought a Soyo Barebones kit from Tiger this past spring when thry were running a bunch of barebones specials. It was DOA when I got it. After some testing and confirmation with a Tech at Soyo they gave me a # to give to Tiger for the return. Tiger sent a complete new barebones system for me to swap out the board. They also paid the freight. The Soyo has been flawless ever since. It's not a bad system for the price.
I'm sure the retailer that you got the board from will recomend the same procedure.

I got in on the same deal you did,I think, havent received my rebate though, after I got my RMA the board is running fine, or i would have heard about it for sure. I basically got a free MB as the CPU alone cost as much as i pd for the barebone.

Yea.. they took back the motherboard this time pretty much no problem.. plugged it in got it all hooked up, bam.. NOTHING HAPPENED! :| I looked at all my connections, and the 12v wasn't seated all the way.. oops! plugged it in, powered up and away we go!

Third times a charm I guess?

Thanks for all your help guys! 🙂
