new computer won't boot

MSI X58 Platinum mobo, core i7 920, OCZ StealthStream 600W. I can get the computer to boot without CPU power cables plugged in (of course it doesn't get far), but once I plug them in nothing happens. I've checked the CPU and it's in the socket correctly, so does anyone have an idea of what may be going wrong?
