New Computer, several problems.

Built a new system this weekend with the help of all of you guys.

I put everything in place, powered on, set up the bios and installed XP SP 3 with absolutely no problems.

My system, foxconn 790 GX, HIS 4890, Earthwatts 500W, 955 BE.

System worked fine for the first day, but on sunday I powered on and had the following problems:


System keeps powering on/off. I can hear the fans starting up, then slow down, then start up... etc.

Three red lights on the HIS GPU, that come on sometimes, and other times they do not show up.

Mobo does not beep, all of this occurs and I cannot get an input signal on any monitor.

Even more oddly if I just wait and power it on again after seeing this problem, the system works at 100% again. The CPU and GPU are running cool at those times and I cannot pinpoint any problems.

Really appreciate help here.
 
Reseat all components, sounds like something isn't grounding. To be safe, make sure you're at the latest BIOS.
 
Little update. Rewired. No luck.

The pulsating fan is just from the GPU, I thought it was the whole system but it is not, this happens at the same time that the three red lights go flashing.

Is this a faulty GPU?

I will try updating the BIOS when I get home from work, I hope I can do this because as of right now I cannot see a thing on my screen.

Edit: I have been trying to access a manual for this GPU but HIS doesnt give you a physical one and just sends you to a site, which, incidentally, does not work.
 
Just got back from work. Took the GPU out and tried to boot from the MOBO internal graphics but it is diabled and still no image on the screen. Should there be an image even though it was disabled?

Also, I have no idea where to find that model number lol. There are a ton of serial numbers sitting on the GPU hardware but don't know which one you need. It is a HIS 4890.
 
I got on the phone with some techies and I reset the CMOS, and I am able to function fine after taking out the GPU. The Foxconn tech guy seemed to narrow down the problem to the memory, the GPU which is no longer in, and the bios which he "highly" recommends to update.

I will update the bios tonight and then re-plug the GPU to see if it works. Hopefully my experience can help others in the future so i will keep this posted. Thanks for all the help people!
