New computer setting up from old computer?

I have a new computer that I would like to be set up identically like my main PC.
Right now the new one is set up with windows XP pro, (as is the old(main)).
What is the best way to move a copy of everything to the new machine,(except tho OpSys.)

Using XP transfer wizard, they ask for a serial transfer cable?

Could I use a cat5 crossover cable directly?
Can I plug the new box into my home network and transfer like that?

Should I take the hard drive out of the new computer and use Norto Ghost to make a copy? (But what about the operating systems, need to keep separate). Will ghost just add the contents of the old hard drive after the XP Pro on the new drive.

I like the way my main computer is set up and just want the new one to look and act the same.

Both are P4's similar peripherals.

Thanks

When you get to the Select a Transfer Method you can pick how you want to do it. I would choose the bottom option to save it to a file then copy it over to the new computer then import it there.

Good Luck

was there an update to this?
im going to be doing this tomorrow. i would rather not have both pcs up and running at the same time, i dont have the room.
