HI, have a new computer, but the mother board had to be replaced, due to booting problems. Got the unit back and installed windows xphome and other software that I use frequently. System running fine for a week. Had not used the unit for a few days. Started it up today, and windows will not start, message comes up that there is a problem with either new software or new hardware problem. (not sure exact message). Have tried several times to start windows but can not even get into safe mode. Now says windows can not be found. Would appreciate any suggestions. Is the new mother board bad again or installed properly?. Was working fine for the week after I got it back from the repair shop.
Thanks.:(

First I would test the hard drive (HDD) using the diag tool from your HDD mfg's website. If you aren't sure what you need to download then post the model of your HDD and we'll go from there.

its a custom built pc, so its not a dell optiplex gx 270 (if it was i would spend 15 minutes with it and say mobo since their diags say everything is good when it isnt), so i would say take the time to run the diags like the HD diag from your HD's vendor and run memstest86+ to see if it passes, try a windows repair install, if you know your hd passed, and your repair install does the error during or after, etc. i'd say its the motherboard being bad again.

Boot to recovery console and run chkdsk on the boot drive and repair any issues found. Let us know what you find.

Thanks for the info. Will give what you suggested a try. This is the second mother board in three months for this new machine.
