First off my name is josh and i am new to the forum.

That aside I just upgraded from my 900mhz pent3 dell to a 2800+ amd hp and love it.
when i first got the computer i noticed that there was a driver on it for the 64 bit amd. now i know that i shouldnt overclock laptops however i downloaded cpumsr to check the clockspeed which is supposed to be 1200mhz which i found to be around 800 max nomatter what program i run.... but to the problem when i clicked on the "AMD athlon" logo on the left side of cpumsr it came up with a message saying "it does not appear this computer is equiped with this chipset" or somthing like that.... how ever the 64 AMD is highlighted.... is it possible that hp is putting the 64 in their laptops and underclocked?

All Athlon 64s (and I'd imagine most notebook processors in general) have features that will downclock the CPU when the extra power is not needed. The aim is to conserve power and/or reduce fan noise by reducing how fast the fan must spin. No A64 should be 1.2GHz by default, though. Try checking the clockspeed in CPU-Z while the processor is under 100% load (running Prime95, SETI, or something like that).
