New Computer Parts

Hey everyone.

First, let me apologize for all the previous posts.. but the forums were always having an error and whatnot. I cleared my cookies & everything this time, so lets see how it goes.

A friend of mine recommended me to these forums for advice on computer parts before I make any purchases. I've got plenty of time now before I buy the parts, but I was wondering what you all thought of what I have my eye on so far..

If there is a different section in the forums to post something like this, please let me know and I will do so.

Also keep in mind, I'm no pro when it comes to computing.. I'm just your above average gamer! 😛
Therefore, I'm not looking for parts that will fly me to space, but at the same time I do want a dream machine.

Okay, on to the parts!


Case: Antec Nine Hundred Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case

Motherboard: ASUS P5N32-E SLI LGA 775 NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI ATX Intel Motherboard

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz 4M shared L2 Cache LGA 775 Processor

Memory: Crucial Ballistix Tracer 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 1066 (PC2 8500) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

Graphics Card: EVGA 768-P2-N831-AR GeForce 8800GTX 768MB 384-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Video Card

Hard Drive: Western Digital Caviar SE WD2000JS 200GB 7200 RPM 8MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive

Power Supply: Antec NeoPower NeoHE 550 ATX12V 550W Power Supply

And the Monitor: SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 1000:1(DC 3000:1)


Any input on parts like what I could change, what might not work, or just your thoughts would be greatly appreciated!

ok here are my recommendations:

ditch that motherboard... get a board with a p35 chipset.. or you could go for an X38 chipset.

do you plan on overclocking or running cards in sli?
if you care about sli, then i would wait for the X38 chipset so you can get 2 16x PCIe slots.
if not, then go for something like a ga-p35-ds3r or an asus P5k vanilla.

Get a seagate 7200.10 HD, the 320 GB and 500GB are well priced.
Get a better PSU: Cosair 620HX can handle a quad core overclocked and 2 x 8800GTX's in SLI

i would wait for the intel price drops (july 22) to happen before buying a processor, unless you need it now.

Posts like this are normally posted in general hardware, but I do not see why you shouldn't be allowed to post it here.

Your parts look fine, but I do not know the particular PSU you have chosen. Your parts are a bit power-hungry, so a decent PSU is money good spent on your part.
