This is my first time building a PC and I was wondering if anyone here had any insight on the parts I will be buying (compatibility, other parts needed, concerns) before I actually purchase them . As I said this is my first time building a PC and am interested mostly in Gaming and Movie Creating. Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Anyway: Here is my list of parts I am about to purchase(Already have an LCD Monitor, wireless keyboard and mouse, dvd/cd player):

-Western Digital Raptor WD1500ADFD 150GB 10,000 RPM 16MB Cache Serial ATA150 Hard Drive

-XFX PVT84JUDF3 GeForce 8600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 SLI Supported Video Card

There are many different flavors of games. For some of those flavors, an 8600GT would be fine. For others, it would be just plain inadequate. What games do you want to play, and at what resolution?

The Raptor used to be the king of hard drives, but it has a lot of stiff competition nowadays, and the kicker is that the competing hard drives are larger and sometimes even cheaper. If you're going to fit all the games you play and all your media on that drive, fine, but personally I'd skip the raptor, get a nice 400-500GB hard drive and put my savings someplace else. (Like the video card.)

Also, I hope you're planning to buy 2GB of RAM.

No idea about the case.

I agree with you DSF about the Raptor. Still the quickest but the margin is getting smaller and smaller and it doen't offer any value anymore imo. Much better off getting a 500GB WD Caviar or Seagate 7200.11.

If you are looking to play the latest games currently available and games coming out during the next year then the 8600 will not be adequate at all. The 512MB 8800GT or GTS will provide the necessary performance. If this causes a problem with your budget then dropping down maybe to a E2180 would blance things out for you until you have the money for a quad.

Must have minimum 2GB RAM.

Little bit concerned about the Eagle (Sky Hawk?) PSU. Is it any good?

Drop Q6600 down to e2180 (save about $200) and overclock to ~3GHz (upgrade to Penryn Quad late next year on the cheap). Go with this mushkin 2GB memory kit ($55). Bump up to the 8800GT 256MB for $220 unless you game at seriously high resolutions, in which case go for the 8800GT 512MB for $275. Get this WD 320GB (SATA, 16MB cache) for $80.

And I will also question the choice in using a cheap "included" powersupply, these things tend to have a bad habit of failing and taking out much more expensive parts with them. I would suggest getting a 400-500W model from one of the better makers (Seasonic/Antec/Corsair/OCZ/Silverstone/FSP Group/PC Power & Cooling). These can be had for $50-70 and are well worth the extra money.
