Hi, Im considering getting a new computer from www.computerlounge.co.nz the current specs I have in mind are:

BFG Geforce 6800 GT 256MB http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=1761
Athlon 64 3500+
Abit AN8 Athlon 64/64FX Processor Nvdia NF4(CK8-04)
Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 6.1

the motherboard im not too sure on, but i think it will be ok.
my main problem is the monitor. It seems I can only get LCD from that website (and I want to get everything from one site)..but I dont know which to get. the BFGGeforce only comes with DVI connections (2 of them) so does this mean i have to get a DVI monitor, because the only one that seems to have DVI is an expensive sony 19".

this also is stated to be made for corporations (etc) and doesnt seem to be suitable for the home user/gamer.

opinions? Is there a monitor Iv overlooked?

should I get this graphics card instead?
http://www.computerlounge.co.nz/components/componentview.asp?partid=1759 (which means Ill have to get a different motherboard.

sorry if this is a long newbie-esque post. but thanks for any help you can give

In this case, it really depends on what kind of gamer you are and how much performance you want to get.

Going the first one, which is PCI-e (faster connection to motherboard, compared to AGP 8x, this is 16x)

This also will open the opportunity for you to have dual cards and use nVidia's SLI mode to get you extreme performance out of the cards, if you are willing to put up the money. Once you have decided if in the future you will want to upgrade, which is actually a very good idea, considering you can have a fantastic graphics card now (the 6800GT is probably the 2nd best card out you can get), and in a year when that card has moved down the list, you can buy a second one and probably get performance near some of the new cards coming.

But, in order to do this, you have to have an SLI capable motherboard and those will run you extra money. It will all depend on how much of a gamer or how much you really need state of the art performance from your video card. The motherboard also depends on if you want to overclock. DFI nf4 SLI-DR board is the best one you can get for overclocking and SLI. Others will argue there are others as well.

As far as your monitor, I don't know if I can suggest that particular monitor. I'm especially reluctant with its 25ms response times. The LCD I will be getting will have an 8ms response time. Big difference there, and the color ratio is not superb either.

I looked at the 19" monitors avaliable and I have to say I'm not familar really with any of those so therefore, I cannot give you a recommendation on a monitor. If you can, I definately suggest getting an LCD from Dell, they are always running good deals and I'm pretty sure they can ship international as well. Just watch for a coupon code to get a great deal on ones. I forget the actual model but it's something like 1901FP (don't quote me)
