This is the motherboard I'm looking at right now:
ASUS A8N-SLI Premium Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

I don't know which 7800GTX to get though - it has occured to me that they might not all be offered in the future (the different brands and such - or wound it be enough to just have two 7800 GTX's of any brand?

I'm also debating what processor to get. I'll definitely be using it for gaming, and I don't know whether dual core would be a good idea. At the moment, I'm looking at AMD Athalon 65 FX55.

I'm looking at 2GB Corsair ram "ValueSelect" (whatever that means) (2 1GBs - I might add more in the future (2 more 1 GB ram))

I'll get the "XtremeMusic" Sound card, a 36.7GB Raptor HD for my system crap and another 250GB HD (Looking at "Western Digital Caviar")

As for DVDs, I'm looking at this "Lite-ON DVD Burner" and then an ASUS DVD rom (for copying CDs and such)

And then a Thermantake XASER for a case

Thoughts? opinions? suggestions? Thanks.

AMD performance is very sensitive memory quality. the New ATI 512 drivers gives added fps/support to dual core cpu's in DODS as well i'd imagine in other games too. im not familiar with the A 8N SLI NFroce4 board, i know it has the 8 phase power current modules but im not sure about the chipsets or 3rd party chipset performance but its something i would also consider

I'm just about to order my system, I think I just need to decide on one of these two video cards. What's the difference between these two cards?

eVGA 256-P2-N529-AX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130237
eVGA 256-P2-N527-AX Geforce 7800GTX 256MB GDDR3 PCI Express x16 Video Card - Retail (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814130254

Here's my revised list:

P180 Case (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16811129154
ASUS A8N32-SLI (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813131568
Seasonic 600W Power Supply (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817151025
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4800+ (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819103544
Corsair XMS 2GB [might add 2GB more down the line] (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820145575
WD 400GB HD (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16822144423
NEC DVD Burner (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16827152058
X-Fi XtremeMusic (http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16829102188
And one of the aforementioned eVGA 7800GTX cards

So, does anybody have any thoughts on which of those video cards I should get? I know the KO one is better, but I guess the question is whether or not it's $100 better. Thanks.

I can't comment on the graphics card but I would take a closer look at the Lian Li V1100. The P180 is still a fine case but it uses way too much plastic in it's construction and is rather boring looking in my opinion. The Lian Li's on the other hand are constructed completely from AL, have a look and feel that no steel and plastic case can equal.

To be honest, I'm much more concerned with keeping my components cool, and preferably quiet, then I am with the appearance of the case. From what I understand, the P180 is great in both of those departments, and it's half the price of that Lian Li. However, if I'm being misinformed, please tell me; I'm getting lots of conflicting information from lots of different people.

I don't think you've been misinformed; stock the P180 is probably quieter and just as cool as the V1100. While the build quality is better on the V1100, the P180 should still do fine.

Okay, I just have two concerns now. That 600W power supply is pretty steep - Would I be okay with less power? If so, any particular brand, or is Seasonic still the way to go?

Also, that mobo is nowhere to be found at the moment. Is it really that good? If it's really worth it, does anybody know when it might become available?

Thanks, and sorry I keep bumping this. I'm almost finished, promise.

This PSU will be fine - Seasonic 500W, it's SLI certified and will give you plenty of power.

edit- and some mobo options:

You can get the DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR which will do you great, best board around barring the boards below.

These other boards are the best but have limited availability, though newegg seems to be getting some more of both in this week:

DFI Lanparty UT SLI-DR Expert.

As previously mentioned, ASUS A8N32-SLI.

I just realized that Opterons have dual cores too - I thought the X2s were the only ones. It looks like some of them are cheap and very fast too. I haven't been looking much at these, but they sound pretty good - but I really know nothing about overclocking and I don't want to damage anything, and it looks like that's what they do well. I also thought they were for servers and stuff, not gaming. They seem to be cheaper then the X2s with more power, am I missing something?

Would the Opertron 175 (or any other opterons I might have missed) be better than the X2 4400+ or 4800+?

On another note, is the difference between the 4400+ and 4800+ worth the extra price?
