Hello,

I'm having some trouble with building my computer. When I turn on the PSU, nothing happens except the Video card light on the mobo comes on and the front mobo light comes on. The processor fan does not spin and I do not here any beeping sounds even though my speaker wire is connected to the mobo. I mounted my mobo with 6 standoffs using washers on every one.

I am currently using:
ASUS P5K-V LGA 775 Intel G33 ATX Intel Motherboard

RAIDMAX SMILODON ATX-612WB Black SECC STEEL ATX Mid Tower Computer Case
A-DATA 4GB(2 x 2GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model ADQVE1B16K (--> I have only one plugged and it is the slot nearest to the processor)

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6750

XFX PVT88PYDD4 GeForce 8800GT 512MB 256-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card

SAMSUNG 226BW Black 22" 2 ms (GTG) DVI Widescreen LCD Monitor (I'm using this monitor to try to get into bios to change settings, but nothing is appearing. I tried hitting/holding the DEL button on the keyboard. Perhaps I need to use another monitor? not sure)

FSP Group (Fortron Source) AX450-PN ATX12V 450W Power Supply (which seems to be working since the lights are turning on)

for that setup, the PSU is underpowered, in my professional opinion. 1st off.
second, you made sure the 24 pin and the 4pin 12 v rail are connected snugly, and if the video card has a power connecter, that it's connected as well?

The power plug was NOT connected to the Video Card, as you said. I connected it, but got:

a slight beep and the fan spun for less than half a second.

theres a high pitched beep once the power is on (the PSU is in and i just hit the power button on the case). meanwhile the fan spins for half a second. then everything seems to die. the fan stops spinning and there are no other beeping sounds.

one continuous beep? either a power short or ram problem, I'd say a power short more than likely.

From what you have said doesn't make sense at all. Your OPS is nice but I think you need to research your HW manuals more.

I'll be able to check in a coupel hours when I get home, but IIRC you need to bridge two power cords into one to power that card. I'm running a Corsair 520W supply and I'm pretty sure I used a Y connector to double up on the power. I'll update when I get home from the office later this afternoon (Like 2:30EST)

a continuous high pitched screech is telling you that your vid card isn't getting enough juice Ask me how I know ; )

I just have a single power line coming to my 8800GT, but it is a dedicated PCIE cord on my Corsair 520HQ PSU. I'd suspect that 450WPSU. The 8800GTs need a pretty good chunk of amperage to run (I think it's like 26A on a single rail).

Shop for PSUs on Hot deals and find something in the 500W+ range. more if you plan on going SLI later, though with that CPU, you might be building a new box before you do that.

Also check your Mobo documentation to make sure your memory is plugged into the proper slots. Improper installation (wrong slot) could hold up a power boot.
