How does this sound? I already have harddrives and cd drives... and a case.

Just buying PSU, Mobo, Power Supply, and Ram.. Then will buy videocard after saving up a little bit more.

ECS A780GM-A AM2+/AM2 AMD 780G HDMI ATX AMD Motherboard ($70)

OCZ StealthXStream 600W PSU ($70)

AMD Phenom 9950 Agena 2.6GHz Socket AM2+ 125W Quad Core ($150)

OCZ Fatality Edition 4GB (2x2GB) Ram ($45)
http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820227334

I currently have an AMD Athlon 64 2800+ with 1GB of ram.. so I figure this would be a nice upgrade for a decent price of under $350. I will probably shop around actually when I actually buy it.

Does this sound alright? Am I overpaying for anything or making a wrong choice?

I plan on buying a nice videocard once I can save up a little bit more money. I want to actually be able to play new games that are coming out.

Any suggestions? Thanks

No need for a 600w PSU in a system like that, the Antec Earthwatts 380w is $50 shipped atm, that's a good option imo. If at all possible, a Phenom II processor would be a much nicer upgrade, however if money is tight, etc. it should still be am upgrade compared to what you're running now.

One thing I have to ask is how you feel towards rebates, many people are find with going over budget but with cash back from rebates (or just staggering their purchases accordingly to rebates). Equally some people prefer/need to buy and keep it all under budget, which of these is more suited to you? Choice A you'll likely get people saying to get a $60 ram kit that's only $25 after rebates or so. Choice B and I'd have to search a few places before coming to a definite recommendation.

Summary: Don't need that PSU with 600w, get a cheaper/more efficient unit. Consider Phenom II for the processor (even the tri-core is comparable to the Phenom quad in performance iirc). Ram can probably be found cheaper.

And on a personal note, I dislike ECS although the 2 boards I've owned from them in the past haven't given me any real problems.

I decided on the 600W PSU after I read reviews about the videocard I was looking at not running on 500W... but I should figure that the PSU review I was reading was a crap PSU. I have a 230W PSU in my computer after hearing people say you need 350W min.

I will definitely look at the Phenom II.

Suggestions on a mobo?

If this matters.. I plan on doing some audio editing and stuff too.. but I imagine the processors will be able to handle that with ease.
