My current computer is 4 years old. I like to build them so they're last about that long. Any suggestions are grealy appreciated. The items I haven't picked out yet are:

1. Keyboard
2. Mouse
3. CPU hsf, if it has the lame push pins, then I don't want it. Was thinking about thermalright, but newegg didn't have any in stock
4. Is the power supply overkill?

THANKS!

1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
-Watching movies
-Ripping/encoding movies
-Programming
-Occasionally gaming

2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$1000-$15000

3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
United States

4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
I value bang-for-your-buck, and quality/reliability more than anything.

5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
The only parts that I will be using from my current machine are:
-20" Dell 2005fpw
-5.1 Logitech speakers

6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
Been reading reviews on Anandtech for a couple of weeks.

7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
I want to try and overclock.

8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
Within the next 2 weeks.

With an E8400 and 8800GT you can go lower on the power supply.

Also, there should be LightScribe burners for less than $38 at this point I would think. Look at the Samsung 203N maybe?

Corsair 520w, 550w?

After thinking about it, it doesn't matter if it has light scribe or not. I just chose a dvd burner that had nero in the retail package.

A 450W would actually be just fine. Anything above that will do without a sweat.
