New Computer Build shuts down randomly??

Hey guys, first post here,

I just finished my latest build, and I started it up to the bios, then it started to load the windows disk (windows 7). Then, after maybe a minute, the computer would shut down, and the screen would go blank. Any help on this?! Right now, I am a little down, since it took a lot of my time to build, and now it is in this state... I tried unplugging one of the graphics cards to see if the power supply was being overloaded, and its a no-go: it still didn't work.

Here are my parts:

Mobo: MSI 870-g45
CPU - Phenom II x4 955 (3.2 GHz)
Cooler - Corsair H70
Power Supply - Corsair TX 750 Watt
GPU - 2x 6870 crossfire
HDD - 250 GB Western Digital
RAM - 4GB DDR3-1333 Corsair XMS3

double check the label on the RAM.. and then go into bios and ensure it's running at the specifiied voltage and latency settings... Sometimes the board undervolts the RAM..depending on the board/psu/ram combo in use..

Did you manually set anything in the bios , or let the system default to the optimal/default settings? Try clearing the cmos if you have to, and load with the optimal settings, only overiding the RAM settings as mentioned, and see if that gets you into windows...

Make sure all of the psu connectors are connected.. including all of the graphic cards pci-e power cables, and the ATX 4 or 8 pin connectors, etc....

You put this thing together, fresh installed Windows 7 from CD or DVD without issues and now Windows 7 won't load? Or is this an upgrade?

Could try a Windows repair... or try booting with a Linux CD/DVD and see how far you get... That should give you a better idea where you stand and then start pulling parts.

Sounds like a heat issue to me? Double check your CPU cooler and remember to use as little as possible thermal compound. Try a bare minimum system too. Loose one of the Vid cards, Ram sticks if applicable and as mlc said use default settings in the BIOS.

It's the easiest way to troubleshoot a new build.

Powerhour - No, I had not installed windows yet- it was loading the files for install when it shut down.

And I had not changed anything in the bios

I'll check everything out later today to see if everything is connected and if the cpu is all good, and let you guys know.

Dear all - I just took the cpu cooler off and wiped half the grease off (so the bare minimum was remaining), removed one stick of ram, and plugged in one video card. And now it is working : ). I'll keep you posted.

Whas it the CPU,the RAM,or the video card. you should done one at the time.

Yeah, sounds like your on the right track. You have to apply thermal paste evenly and too much or improperly will nullify its benefit. Figuring out the rest will be trial and error but shouldn't be too hard.

Denis280- It was the CPU Paste...I had already tried the RAM and GPU before, but to no avail. I have tested it, and now crossfire is running smoothly, and all is well
