I can type wayyyyy faster than the keyboard can recognize my keystrokes (for some reason) it keeps missing characters that I've typed.

I thought dial-up sucked before. I'm convinced now that it's run by a tiny fairy inside my computer who is slowly sending everything in morse code.

I was soooo psyched earlier. It wasn't supposed to be here until tomorrow. Now, it's just disappointment. 🙁
(Dell E521, 1GB, AMD 3800+ dual core, 250GB, DVD +/- dual layer...

The mouse sucks too; the scroll button feels like someone used old rusty parts.

Bundled keyboards/mice are the cheapest Chinese crap. Buy something from Logitech.

And I usually don't boot Dell (or any other big name OEM) computers into Windows without doing a clean reinstall first.

Wireless keyboard/mouse? That could explain it, max response on wireless is 125hz, while 'wired' USB devices can respond up to 1000hz (obviously, almost 10 times faster).

And, yeah, ANY bundled keyboard/mice are usually crap.

Maybe the installation of the most recent video drivers will help.
I agree the Dell system needs to have the excess crap removed.
Additionally, Vista is slow in the beginning since it is indexing the files in the system, as well as possibly performing other "set up" operations.

That 'excess crap' is a good point. My wife's laptop was store-bought HP, but I never even turned on that OS. Too much junk, and I just didn't want to deal with it. It's first POST was with a WinXP-SP2 OEM CD in the drive, and the disk was formatted with a clean OS.

(Obviously, make sure you have all your drivers and such you need beforehand, but this is SO much better a way to handle pre-builts!)

The stock Dell keyboard sucks, is it the little tiny one? Ditch it and buy a decent Logitech or Microsoft for $20 - $60.

Dell De-Crapifier: Format c: Give up and buy a 24" iMac for $1,999

Fixed.

Hey, thanks Rossman... I had forgotten to do that.
I got caught up in installing one of the trial dial-up services (11 days til satellite broadband.)

The bundled mice that come with HP's are made by Logitech. And they're made in China.

First you'd post about it on AT with a poll, right?

Niiiiiii-iiiiiiceeeeee!

De-crapified it, rebooted, and this thing is flying! Suddenly, the crappy dial-up connection is flying right along. Wooohooo!

darn it! spoke too soon. I've been trying to download an image of mine from pics.bbzzdd. It pretty much stops my computer in its tracks. Maybe it's got something to do with the "hispeed" compression crap on netzero. Couldn't open gmail earlier with netzero until I turned off their web accelerator. Oh well... counting down the days til I can kiss dial-up good-bye again.
