I thought the timing on the memory was supposed to make a major difference...am I wrong about this? Can anyone recommend a good 2gig pack of fast memory for about 200?

timings have almost no effect on an athlon 64.

get 2 gigs of regular cas 2.5 value ram, get the 3000 over the 3500 and OC it to 3500 speeds. then you would havea rig for the same price as you posted, but way better.

On the top of the CPU/OVerclocking forums, there is a sticky showing that timings ARE good for the AMD 64s.

Uh. No.

Some Games = very slight benefit to using expensive high bandwidth TCCD or expensive LL ram Like Ballistix over value ram. Winrar sees major benefit though, 41% top to bottom.

LAME, Cinebench, ScienceMark, PiFast, Superpi, POV-Ray, DVDShrink shows no or infinitesmal boost above Value ram.

I'd get the OCZ Value VX for $100 or something like that. Other value ram (ex: Corsair ValueSelect) won't work with the DFI LanParty board.

actually, it doesnt. re-read that post. In nearly all of his benchmarks, timings made only a couple % performance difference. only in a couple select programs did they really matter. Games especially, there is not much difference at all.

If your gonna go with ATI then I suggest you get some cheap mobo with an x300 until ATI brings out their crossfire mobo's

I'm probably gonna get this one
