I'm buying a new computer tonight and I need to know if what I'm getting is good enough...

First off,
I think I'll be getting a 1800+ Thoroughbred (I think it's the B revision) Retail (I'll be using the retail heatsink).

The motherboard will be the Asus A7N8X Deluxe boasting the nForce 2 chipset

I'll be getting 2 x 256MB DDR RAM PC3200 (non generic) cuz the mboard has dual channel support

As for the Video Card, I'll be getting the ATI 9500 PRO 128MB OEM (I just hope it's made by ATI and not Powercolor)

For the case, I did a lot of researching and I found that the Antec SLK3700AMB is the Best for the Price... I was thinking of getting the 1080Performance plus but it's over $100 more than this case.(Remember: I'm canadian, so the prices here are all in Canadian)

The hard drive will be the new Maxtor 60Gig (pretty silent and inexpensive).

I'll also be getting either the Logitech MX300 or the Microsoft Intellimouse Explorer. As for case cooling, the case already comes with a 120mm fan in the back and I'll be getting a 120mm fan for the front.
So that's it, plz comment on this comp cuz I really want to get the most outta my money. If the processor isn't good enough for the vid card plz tell me... also don't forget that I'm not rulling out some light overclocking, especially when this motherboard has the ability to lock the AGP clock and the PCI clock (even though you cannot change the latter).

Nice system!
But only 60 gigs Maxtor? Isn't WD a better choice for a hard-drive nowadays?
I would go for a WD hard-drive and i would push the CPU up a bit and leave the other 256Mb DRR stick for some time later as RAM is easier to upgrade than the CPU! ;) The Video Card seems good, but i'm not much into the videocard business right now... gotta refresh my videocard database! ehehe!

But nice rig anyway! :)

Well for the RAM I think I'll stay with 512 cuz I'll be photoshop'in and AutoCAD'in.
As for the Hard Drive, I have a 20gig on my computer and I'm barely using any space appart for pictures and some songs... I just bought a synthesiser and I'll be doing some music but I'm sure 60Gig is more than enough.... For $135CANADIAN, it's a great price... the WD 80Gig 8MB is around $200CAN and that's too much...
As for the CPU ... I think the 1800+ is the best for the money right after having done a price vs speed graph... and of course, next year, if I'll be needing a new CPU, ill be able to buy a Barton with 400MHz FSB and be able to run in sync with the memory. I don't need to pay $100 or $200 for a CPU when I won't even notice the difference. Don't forget that when I'll feel that my CPU aint fast enough, I'll just overclock it a bit cuz these cpu's don't run very hot ...
Anyways thx for the response up till now ... Keep 'em coming

The XP1800 is a little slow. The price break for AMD CPU's are at the XP2000. Your best deal is a XP2000. But check pricewatch.com to see the best deal you can get on it.

AutoCAD and Photoshop. This is why people need to remember to mention what they use their computers for. It's extremely important. I'll assume that you're also a gamer. If you really like turning up graphics detail (AA/Aniso) then stick with the 9500 Pro. Otherwise, grab any of the GF4 Ti4200 cards that have the same PCB as the Ti4600 (8-Layer) and 128MB of 3.3ns RAM (again, the same as the Ti4600). For example, the Albatron GF4 Ti4200P Turbo 128MB from Ncix (a great retailer) for $298. You can easily O/C any of these cards to Ti4600 speeds (or very close to it, as they are designed for just that. They'll run most things faster than your 9500 Pro, until you turn up AA and Aniso. I never use either, as I'm perfectly happy at 1280x1024 at 32 bits.

I'd get the 1700+ because of its overclocking potential. It'll O/C just as far as the 1800+ at a lower cost. It's clearly the pick at this time for those that O/C.

For the case, look at the Antec Performance Plus 660AMG. See if it fits your budget. It's a great case. See for yourself.

I'd look at one of the Western Digitals as well. If you don't need much space, consider the 400JB. It's a 40GB model with the 8MB cache.

Go to a store and try out both mice in your hand. They're both great, but don't install the Logitech's drivers from the CD. Download the newest ones from their website as there were issues with it in some games. Or do what I do and just don't install any drivers. The only thing that won't work is that stupid program selector button, and who needs that anyway.
