Ok im gonna be building a new comp, or most likely buying one from Monarch, im hoping to get something around a 64 3500+ and a 6800gt a gig of ram and all the other computer goodies.
Now the question is to buy one now or wait untill summer start and buy one then, would there be really anything to gain from this, saved money, better stuff, anyway thanks alot.

You have to realize that in 6 months, you are no longer on the front line of tech. If you have the money right now, go ahead and buy. You'll just end up spending more on upgrades and new components early in the future.

There is some speculation that the new R520 ATI card may be out by the summer, but it's always a crap shoot when it comes to knowing when the card will actually be available. If you want dual core processors, you can wait until the Fall. AMD also has faster processors in the line up for this year.

In other words, you -always- benefit by waiting a little longer. The question is whether or not you are willing to give up having a nice system for a while, in exchange for having an even better system later on. Personally, I'm hanging on for a while yet...and I only have an Athlon 1800+ and a Radeon 9800 Pro :)

I had the same dilema, around Christmas. I was all set to buy an Athlon 64 (754) Nforce 3 setup. However I head about all the latest Athlon 64 (939) 90nm stuff coming out and Nforce 4 / PCI Express.

Here we are March 18, and I just ordered all my components. For waiting 3 months i've got Nforce 4 mobo, SATA drives with NCQ, PCI Express Video and latest Athlon 64 3500+ 939 90nm cpu. Personally waiting this wasn't worth it in my opinion. Everyone says the current benchmarks of AGP/PCI Express video cards are no difference. There isn't a huge speed increase in Athlon 64 processors in 939 90nm vs 939 130nm or 754 130nm. Also even the latest SATA's drive (excluding the Raptor) run no quicker than there ATA 100 counterparts.

So really, from what I understand all the latest technology (SATA/PCI Express/64 bit architecture) won't be utilized (to the point you'll see gains over current technology) for the next year or so.

Sure Dual Core Athlons and Pentiums are coming out in summer, but you won't be able to afford a decent one until Christmas and software won't be able to utilize its benefits until its specifically written to do so... and that will take some time!

Buy now! Just my 2 cents.

If you can get a good deal on the 6800GT ($350 or so), then I would get that. Otherwise, go with the X800XL, which has similar performance, and should be available for under $300.

Actually there will be a CPU refresh from AMD. The Winchesters will be replaced by Venices. The biggest difference is that you'll get SSE3 extensions now.

SSE3 is not worth waiting for unless you know you use programs that are optimized to use it. Green, buy now, be happy. :D
