Hi, thx for taking a look. My system is as follows in detail:

Epox 8KHA+
Athlon 1800+
Thermalright AX-7 with 80mm Panaflo L1A
Used Arctic Silver 3
Gainsward Geforce 3 TI200 Golden Sample
SB Audigy Platinum
D-Link Ethernet Card...scavenged from old PC
DigiDoc-5
Lite-On 52x CD-ROM
Panasonic Floppy
Channel Well 420 Watt AMD approved PS
Seagate Barracyda IV 60 gig
Smart & Friendly CD-RW Old one prolly 4x or 8x
Internal usb and firewire hub in 3.25 slot
Crucial 512 MB DDR
I have 4 more panaflo 80mm fans plugged in along with a cold cathode light.
All fans are plugged into digidoc except for the one on the heatsink which is plugged inyo the mobo.

I think that covers about everything.

Now the problem:

I put everything together any hit the power button. The fans started spinning, but the rig doesnt post or beep. The screen remained blank. The LCD display on the mobo reads FF. I have checked every connection, everything appears to be seated fine. According to digidoc, the cpu temp for the 5 seconds i had it on was 24.1 C. I was fairly careful putting everything together, i used anti static cream, didnt force any connections, and sprayed the rig with compressed air to make sure that there were no stray hairs etc. lying on it.

I've only put together 2 sstems b4 this and i never had any problems so i am very inexperienced with this form of troubleshooting. Even worse, i spent all my cash on my baby and need some results in order to appease my girlfriend who is getting more bloodthirsty by the hour. 🙁

Any suggestions/solutions are greatly appreciated. If u live anywhere near boston mass, feel free to come over and take a look 🙂

Thanks eveyone.

"My computer gets no video (ISA, PCI or AGP). What is wrong?"

I've had the same problem before. If you've already checked all your connections and everything is seated well, then I would try booting with the bare minimum (video card, RAM, hard drive). If that doesn't work, check to make sure that your motherboard isn't shorting out (check the metal connectors to make sure that they're not touching the motherboard. If that still doesn't work, I would try switching out the power supply. Even though the fans turn on, it can still be a bad power supply. I refused to believe so until I switched it out. That worked for me. Hope this helps.

I know that FF means one of the following:

BIOS chip reversed.
Updated with wrong BIOS.
Motherboard problem.
Add-in card inserted wrong.
CPU problem.

Possible Solution:
Make sure BIOS chip is installed correctly.
Check all installed add-in cards.
Swap motherboard and/or processor.

I checked the add in cards already, i dont have anoyher mobo or processor to swap in, and i dont know how to seat the bios chip correctly.

dont mess with the bios chip, if it shipped like that leave it like that, do you have anything in the first pci slot? if so remove it, actually try to do just a minimal boot (mobo cpu ram video) see what you get, if that works add in cards until you find it no longer works, making sure to leave pci slot 1 open for now.

/edit did you make sure you installed the brass standoffs that came with your case correctly? made sure they aren't contacting the bottom of the board anywhere?

/edit #2 are your fans plugged into the mobo or psu? try using a converter to plug them into the psu see if that helps anything, also in the minimal bood, you won't need all of the case fans, so just leave them unplugged until you are sure everything is working.

Are you sure you have the cpu fan plugged into the fan1 header? Some motherboars (at least my abit kt7a) automatically power off if theres no fan on fan1. On my board at least, fan*2* was the one closest to the cpu, with fan1 beside it.

Just a thought, but in the past I have had the video card appear to be seated. It looked, and felt seated, but the lip that holds it down was holding it back. So I bent the lip up slightly and tried again. This time the computer booted up fine. I have had this happen on more than one occasion. It is always worth a shot.

I know it's a big pain, especially when you've carefully put everything together, but in my experience your best bet is to basically remove everything from your rig except the video card, the memory, and the CPU. Then you try to power up and see what happens. If you still can't start your system, more than likely there's either somehting wrong with the cpu or mobo (or both), or the video card is not properly seated.

If you do get the machine to post, start adding components one by one (and keep booting to see if it still works) until you find the problem or the system works proplery. Also, make sure you're not doing any overclocking etc yet, leave that for later in the game when everything works.

Lastly, if it's at all possible, find someone in your area that has a system that might help you test out parts. For example, you could put your vid card in someone else's system just to make sure it boots up... if it does, you can eliminate it as the cause of problems. The same goes for memory etc.

Good luck!

Holy cow, this is happening to every one.... check that your PSU is set at 110/115 instaed of 220/230, That was my trouble with same situation, and apperently the guy that told me about it.
