new comp setup question

Anubis

No Lifer
ok so my parts arrived finially no thinks to UPS, and its together, 3200+ 2 gis ram 2 x 80 sata 6600gt, DFI lanparty .... unattented XP install dooing its thing

anyway i have a question about how im gonna set it up, i plan on having win boot off the Sata drive on SATA 1 and teh other on SATA 2 for storage, and I also plan on putting in 2 160gig IDE drives, as well as a DVD drive and burner, now if i place the 2 IDE drives on IDE channel 1 will this cause boot issues as it will look at both and see there are drives there? or will it be fine, if it has an issue im guessing placeing it on IDE 2 woudl just avoid that right?

so i plant on having it like this
SATA1 - Win
SATA2 - storage
IDE1 - 2x 160gis
IDE2 - DVD/Burner

will that work or should i swap the ide channels

i hope that is understandable

It would work...
Nothing wrong with switching IDE channels.

Course I'd tell you to raid 0 or raid 5 your IDE and SATA drive, unless SATA drive was bigger, then NVM! 🙂

yea id love to do R5 however i dont have the funds to pull that off, and i dont really "need" it

Then do raid 0 🙂

nah dont like the idea of loosing everything, i would run raid 1 if i was worried about data but im not, i just brun DVDs all the time and have a more or less constant backup of the impoitant stuff, and its backed up across the 4HDDs in my comp anyway

How about Raid-0+1 then? 😛

raid is a waste of time and space if ya ask me. you can boot off of the sata drive and it will be fine with ide drives on the channel 1. You just have to select it in the bios as the boot priority. Sounds like a sweet rig, although, i wouldnt have bought nvidia (graphics). but thats me.
