New comp running hot

Specs:
Antec Sonata
athlon 64 3000+
MSI K8n Neo Platinum

my system is running at 55 C under minimal load. Is this dangerous? Just built it, any tips on cooling it down would be appreciated.

did you apply the thermal paste properly? maybe you seated your heatsink on backwards. if the heatsink came with its own paste, then make sure you pulled the plastic film off that. 55C is extremely high for an athlon 64. you should be around 35-45C.

When i was installing my retail heatsink i was actually expecting some form of plastic covering the paste so i set it down while working on something else, a bit of it stuck to the desk😛 CPU is actually a few degrees cooler than the rest of the case, as I type my system is 52 and my CPU is 49. Prlly gonna try installing another fan this week, never thought the case would be so damn hot :[

Try and buy a Silent Boost and stick a high-output Sunon 3-pin 80mm fan on there. I'm using the heatsink combo as said and it works great.

My problem doesnt really seem to be the CPU cooling. It just is blowing hot air onto my proc because my system is so hot. I even switched the fan cables from the fan only (quieter, hotter) to a normal connection and it's still blazing. How long can i expect my components to hold out at 50 C?

If you aren't overclocking, 50'C is fine, My Barton runs at 47'C idle, and thats with aftermarket cooling, and ceramique. AMD says up to 90' C is safe, so as long as you aren't overclocking, enjoy 🙂

EDIT: How long can you expect them to last? Don't worry, some people are STICKLERS for temps, but they really don't mean much unless youre overclocking, a "33'C" idle processor is going to perform the same as a 47'C processor if they're the same chip, it's just a matter of personal security? I don't know, anyways, don't worry, if you were at 60' C there might be reason for concern, but 50 isnt that bad.

Ambient case temps sound like they're a problem for you. Your case isn't in direct sunlight is it!? 😕 And also, does your motherboard have AMD my excellent compatriot n quiet? Seeing as how its new, it prolly does, try enabling that as well, it's a BIOS feature.

i would try applying arctic silver on the heatsink just in case. that should bring the temp down some. also, if your room is warm, thats another factor.

if your at 65 C and your HS doesnt feel hot, maybe your HS isnt making good contact with the chip?

and ive heard that board temp sensors are always off anyway

my sonata reads really high case temps too, which are wrong. mine always reads 40-42C, even though if i stick a thermometer in my case it reads 30ishC.

are case temps recorded from the motherboard or from the PSU?

Boy my new P4 2.8C is running at 30 degrees C. Granted I am using a Zalman but it is great feeling to have it running cool. My old AMD 1900+ would run at 47 no matter what I did.
