New comp parts?

I plan to put together a new comp sometime within the month of September. I plan to put in $400 and my parents are putting in $800. So im on a "around" $1200 budget so keep that in mind.

Mobo - Intel 865PE P4 supports HT (Hyper-Threading) 800mhz
Processer - P4 2.4Ghz HT technology 800mhz
Hard Drive - basic 80GB Maxtor probably
Video Card - GeForce FX 5600 Ultra 128MB
RAM - Corsair or Crucial 2x 256MB
OS - XP Pro

Now that is the basic things i would like to incorporate but can be changed. And I was wondering what is the difference between OEM and retail besides the price. I still need to include a CASE, POWER SUPPLY, COOLER(if extra funds), DVD±RW(maybe just a DVD-ROM and a CD-RW), keyboard, MONITOR and some nice speakers. I have a nice Sound Card already that isnt being used.

If You have any input or anything to say about any please do. I can change the above im not stuck on NVidia or INTEL they can change. While i get input ill go make some cash.

newegg.com is where most people here buy parts.

retail CPU = comes with a perfectly good heatsink / fan (OEM = NO HSF), it's fine unless you're going for the insane overclock

retail mobo = sometimes has a better warranty and sometimes has cables, metal plate for case (I/O shield) that OEM may not. Pictures at newegg will show you what comes with OEM version.

retail video card = sometimes extra game CDs, that's usually it.

case = matter of taste, I like the Antec SLK3700AMB for a good yet cheap case.

If you are a hardcore gamer, in your price range an XP 2500+ and a fx 5900 non-ultra (around $250-300 now) would be much stronger than a 2.4C and slower 5600 Ultra. The 2.4C is faster (around a 2700+) but the video card would hold it back.

Read a few of the many, many "rig" / "system" / "budget" threads in this forum to get more ideas on parts, especially AMD.

If you have $1200 spend it.
