New comp not starting

I just built a new computer and unfortunately it is not starting up. Nothing happens when I press the power switch ( yes it is plugged in). Due to a very very bad instrucion manual for the case, I was not sure if i placed the case power wires to the motherboard jumpers correctly ( with the correct polarities), but I switched them and tried it again, and nothing happened. Last time I built a comp, the jumpers were incorrectly set, but I checked it this time. Any help appreciated, thank you.

 
Make sure everything's seated properly (i.e., no gold contacts visible on graphics/PCI cards or RAM), that all cables (including video card power cables, the ATX12V cable, etc.) are in correctly, and the motherboard isn't touching the motherboard tray and shorting. Also double-check the motherboard manual to see which pins to put the power button wires on.

I was thinking the same thing... polarity doesn't matter with the case switches.

might also try connecting the two pins directly for a moment... if the computer tries to start, then you have a bad switch on the case.

Also, make sure the ATX power connector is fully seated in the motherboard connector (the big power connector)

 
Hmm, so maybe I should mention that the speed controler for the thermealtake handcano is slightly touchign the motherboard. That might be the problem. (its a back panel screw in device)

That doesn't sound good :shocked:

maybe try the stock HSF until you have a custom one that fits.

(shorted power trace to ground would certainly prevent your PSU from enabling it's outputs)
 
Sorry, misstated the part. (hardcano, not handcano as above, but Insidious, that is acutally the case fan control panel, not a hsf for the processor) However, I was incorrect, it was not the hardcano backplate, but the powersupply fan controler (thermaltake purepower). I unscrewed that and tried again, but it still didnt work. I checked to make sure the powersupply switch control is on the 1 not the 0.
 
I KNOW WHAT IT IS!!!!

You know how you pluged in the ATX power connector on your mobo? Well make sure the other connector that is a 4-wire version of that is ALSO pluged into your motherboard. Its usually inbetween the cpu and agp... you can find it.


 
Also, tripple check your little cables that connect to the power-on buttons on the case... and then check it again. Those are very tricky!
