New chipset from intel ?

It's a modified i815E chipset without the onboard audio. All other specifications are the same. The i752 onboard video portion of the chipset has simply been disabled.

Support for the Pentium III Tualatin processor requires a revision to the GMCH; the i815EP will not support the Tualatin.
 
Currently there are no chipsets that will support the future Tualatin P3.

There will be a later revision to the i815EP chipset that will support it. The Almador i830 chipset has been cancelled.
 
Reportedly a revision of the 815EP will also support USB 2.0. What the 815EP will not support (and will hinder it) is support for RAM >512MB.
 
OK, here's the scoop. First of all, chip_set_ names get increasingly useless as the development of north and south bridge chips gets ever more independent.

So what Intel now sells as 815EP chipset is a combination of 815EP north bridge and ICH2 south. The 815EP north is the normal 815 minus the integrated graphics unit. Everything else, including CPU support and the, erm, limited RAM support and AGP aperture size, is unchanged as far as the facts are known.

Changes to USB would happen in the south bridge ICH part, which is the unchanged ICH2 for now.
