I hope this is the right forum. I searched and there was no consistent area for these posts.

I know nothing about HTPC really, except what I've gathered here reading a few posts. I don't know what I need as far as video cards, remotes, etc & not even sure yet what all an HTPC can do, but I'm learning more about that. I'd also like to know how the guide works on an HTPC. I'm used to using the Dish dvr guide which is very simple but effective. Is there a way to have a guide using an HTPC?

I'm building a cheaper <$400 for use mainly as a DVR and to store and playback music & photos, burn dvd's from recordings, etc. Won't do gaming but maybe some surfing and dvd encoding w/ dvdshrink. For now I can only play it through my cheap old magnavox 25" but will be getting a nicer 35" widescreen lcd maybe in 6 months. But I do have a nice kenwood setup to play back music. I'll be coming out of my satellite tuner so maybe I don't need any special tv tuner cards but a remote would be nice.

The only components I have bought already are:
-cheap but attractive Ensight matx case w/ 200w PS (ecost deal)
-windows mce.

I can spend about another $350 on the following (just ideas so far)
-SATA 200gb ($80)
-MSI matx 6150 ($80) already has some video out/in stuff, not sure what
-512MB ddr400 ram ??
-A64 3200+ ($150ish)
-Remote, keyboard, etc ??

Thanks for any suggestions, and I'll keep searching around here too.
