How do you like your pans now that you've spent some time with them?

_____________________________________________________

We're loving them actually, the wife was skeptical at first but she loves them now also.

The things still look brand new and things just glide out of them.

Just received the new knife, it's wickedly nice.

Think I could get this thread transferred to the new Homes thread?

This new knife is impressive.

Just had to add it in here after having it a little while now, they've even been sold out for some time.

I hope they start making a few others, I'd buy some similar steak knives from the same brand.

These guys make a pretty serious knife, seems they are selling them faster than they can make them.

For the price it was, it is a steal.

Wow, that's...special :awe:

Hey, how do you like your faucet? I just installed one at a friend's food shop (commercial) & loved it - I'm trying to convince my wife to let me set one up at home, but she thinks the coil will get nasty over time. The big benefit I see is being able to wash out big stuff like my grill grate or baking sheets without the hassle of banging into a smaller faucet head.

It was $42 and change with shipping when I bought it.

It might change when back in stock maybe, people apparently seem to have been scarfing em up.

I might have made it sound wrong, is one knife, I corrected that.

But you seem aware of that, thought I would clarify for anyone else looking in the future.

Watched a couple videos on it, looks amazing! I'll definitely pick one up when it comes back in stock, thanks!

FYI to anyone looking: next batch is due in about 3 weeks. They are looking at doing a small set in the future as well.

My Costco had these in the clearance section. Two sets. Didn't look at the price. Corner of I95 and Lantana in Palm Beach.

Kinda of a interesting knife the wife brought home as a engraved Christmas present a hour ago.

Had to even look it up a bit to see specifics I guess.

I highly doubt you saw the Chefs knife in a clearance section.

Cool, I'd buy a smaller set of em.

The ceramic pans I was talking about. The last time I was there they were still there.

IMHO Cutco is not that great of a cutlery and many other sites state that as well. They are very highly priced considering they don't use very good stainless steel (440A).

eBay usually always has whatever Cutco item one would want available and cheaper than a door-to-door or in-store presentation price.

Ah gotcha, my bad.

The pans are working extremely well here and have no flaws, but of course are still newer.

The wife loves em.

Was a freebie gift more or less on the knife, will have to give it a go, 440 isn't as flexible though and is supposed to be one of it's selling points I suppose.

Most stainless is more oriented towards what you intend to do property wise rather than a quality issue a lot of the time from my experience machining it almost daily, and who makes it cert wise.

Making things out of steel has kinda been a major portion of my life I guess :)

I have tried various fancy knives even diamond edged ones, but I am no longer interested in how sharp the blade is when I buy it. I find that all of them eventually need sharpening and that the best way to have a sharp knife is to have one you can sharpen yourself. For that I like a high quality steel knife that is wide enough and not so thick at the non blade edge to have an evenly tapering V shape to the blade. The thinner it is at the edge, the less metal you need to take off to sharpen it and the easer it cuts for me. The sharpener and the taper are as important to me as the knife. They will all get dull in time. Steaks also taste better when you sharpen the knife and wipe the blade on your pants before you eat them.

Are you talking about the geometry of the edge, or that the edge is actually made out of diamond? Because I'm calling bullshit on that.

Unless the edge is diamond-coated, but I don't think anyone is doing that right now for kitchen knives.

The Amazon reviews for these knives seem to be written by people who have no idea how to choose, use, or maintain decent knives. I would be surprised if they are any better than Kyocera's Revolution series of ceramic knives.

Also, how much do you have to contort your wrist if you need to use the knife's point to cut something? It's IMO stupidly high, like the reverse of a santoku.

Seems several of the reviews are from people with very high end knives to me.

I like mine, and am a Tool and Die Maker by trade.

I know a bit about things along these lines.

It's a ZWILLING J.A. HENCKELS 4 inch paring knife and it cost 75 dollars at Macy's. I bought it a long time ago and have never seen them again. It has diamond dust, I guess, in some sort of metal on one side of the edge. The diamond has now been worn away which I suspect they stopped making them. I used it to cut my lamb chops II had for dinner tonight.

My Dalstrong will be here next week, I'll post back with how I like it. I have a variety of knifes right now. Wusthof is generally my go-to brand (I like the handle grips), but I needed a new Chef's knife anyway, so we'll see how it goes! I've never had a ceramic knife before, so this will be a new experience for me.

Got mine in today. Tried slicing up a potato for fun. First slice in the middle turned out mandoline-thin without even trying:

Is it magic? No. It won't replace something like a heavy 10" Chef's knife - I tried some thicker stuff like butternut squash & you really do need the extra weight of the larger, heavier knives. But for what a 7" Chef's knife is designed for, it's brilliant. I love it! Super light, extremely sharp, and it can handle cutting through thicker stuff if you need it to. My buddy had one of those mini round watermelons....it cut laser-perfect like a CNC machine with the Dalstrong:

The 7" Chef's knife is probably my most common knife, so this will be great for me since I cook with a lot of veggies - tomatoes, zucchini, etc. For the record, we also tried bread, but you do need a serrated edge to get the sawing motion, so again - it does great for what it's designed for. Ridiculously light, super sharp. For $37 shipped? Would buy again.
