Seriously, "Lords of Shadow?" What a cringe-worthy subtitle. It's just as well; it looks like another crappy button masher anyway.

And 'Dawn of Sorrow', 'Portrait of Ruin', 'Curse of Darkness' or any other Castlevania subtitle is any better? Please, that's how these games are named... get over it

Oh the days of playing Castlevania. I love this series, truly one of the most I think under appreciated series that has been around for so long. The music is always amazing even if the game is crap.

The action totally screams God of War but, I'm okay with that because I like God of War. I hope the puzzles are still there however. Patrick Stewart doing voice over just makes me happy because he is awesome and now a Knight. Sir Patrick!

Good thing the thumbs have calluses.

Well. I don't care really if it copy Gow fo War gameplay as long as it doesn't copy its bald and emotionally disrupted main character. Then again, if you call this coping GOW, then you can also claim that Red Alert 2 is a copy ripoff of the original Warcraft or call Shyadow Complex a ripoff of original Metroid. I don';t really mind the reboot either, sicne they basically completed the story at Dawn of Sorrow.

Speaking of 2D Castlevania, I like Portrait of Ruin as much as sotn, specially with POR's epic tag team last boss.

Did anyone actually beat Castlevania N64? The beginning of the game was horrible, but in the end I found it enjoyable... although I have always had a soft spot for Castlevania games, but I just think it was a really a lot better than given credit for. Sure, it wasn't SotN or up to par with the best of the series, but it was not horrible in any way, it was rather enjoyable if you get over the hatred of making a classic game 3d and not making it completely awe-inspiring.

I played the N64 Castlevania, but it had too many issues that made it difficult to get anywhere in it. Curse of Darkness did the 3D Castlevania pretty well. And for those who are calling it a God of War copy, GoW wasn't the first 3D action game. Hell, GoW woulda been in a way copying the N64 Castlevania or Mario 64 or the Xbox Ninja Gaiden. Any game that's done pretty much copies something from some predecessor nowadays ..... except Katamari Damacy. That's just too odd to have copied from anything else.

Mario 64 and Ninja Gaiden have nothing similar to GoW...the comparison is because of how the chain/whip/cross/kickass-swissarmyknifething is used like Kratos Blades of Chaos and the effects when the blades are used. It's not a bad thing. I look forward to it.

I played PoR and finished it. Loved it. I played the next one, Dawn of Sorrow I think but got stuck early on and couldn't figure out what to do so quit playing it.

I started the next one, can't remember the name but I'm not as hooked as I was with PoR.

This has been getting mixed reviews but I'm looking forward to playing it when I get home.

Also, there is a demo up on XBL (and soon PSN?).

I started out really liking this game. Nice graphics. Good combat against regular enemies. Then there was the first mini boss. I kick his ass, and I'm standing on some glowing wood post and it says press and hold R2. So I immediately hold it and nothing happens. The boss jumps at me and almost kills me. So I go back over to the glowing wood post and try to pick it up, but i can't do anything with it. So eventually I die. This time, start off right at the scene where it says press R2 again. I hesitated for a moment, and then pressed and held R2, and then I picked up the wooden post and killed the boss with it. Ok... so I pressed R2 a moment too soon the first time. Whatever.

Next mini boss..
I know a lot of people hated quick time events in GOW. But right now, this game is pissing me off! Another mini boss. I kick his ass, he is stunned. Game says press R2 to finish him. I press R2 and jump on him, then he slams me down and kills me! over and over! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!
At least in GOW when it shows a Square or X, you know if you pressed it on time or not. This game, no, you just die and it's like there's nothing you can do. I keep pressing R2 and he keeps killing me.
omg Apparently I missed the tutorial earlier in the game where you have to wait for the glowing circles to match and press another button after you jump on someone... awesome.

Sounds like you just suck at games... I played the demo last night on the hardest setting allowed and it was retardedly easy.

Yeah I suck at games because I skipped over a tutorial that tells you what you're supposed to do when a bunch of circles start moving around on screen.

I was taking down the bosses without barely getting hit, but when it came to the part where you need to grab them, if you didn't watch what you were supposed to do earlier in the game, you won't have a clue. It's not like it said press the Triangle button, it's just some circles moving around after you hit R2.

Honestly it sounds like you are just not hitting the right button quick enough in the situation you described. I did fight the boss @ the end of chapter 2 and I felt you couldn't know what to do unless you died trying first, but it wasn't that bad.

I've gotten to the 1st lord of shadow last night and I've got to say this game is pretty damn good so far. This cam completely out of left field for me. I saw this on the shelf and thought "oh god. another cheezy shit castlevania". My friend brought this over and I noticed that it was developed by Kojima's team. Peeked my interest.

1st off, this game looks pretty damn long and it's already very deep. Tons of combo, upgrades, areas to explore, enemies to fight, etc. The graphics are good, but a little choppy here and there. The camera is NOT perfect and created occasional issues. The graphical style is top notch though. Story, decent-ish, certainly not MGS, it's ok. I actually felt guilty when I had to fight one guy, kill him and take a piece of him.

This game completely and unabashedly rips God of War's entire formula and definitely rips Shadow of the Colossus as well. IMO, this really works for the game, not against, and TBH, I'm surprised more games haven't gone this route. I'm not all the way through yet, but every boss fight has been great and the game is ACTUALLY DIFFICULT. In the age of Activision it's nice to see a game actually challenge me. I am playing this on the 2nd hardest level though. The toughest is still locked.

If you like stuff like God of War, Ninja Gaiden, etc. check this out.

Well, obviously. Once I figured out what to do the rest of the game was very simple. If you skipped the tutorial, there's nothing at all on the screen that gave you any hint as to what to do.

Ugh, what are you suppose to do when you see the glowing circles? I must have slept through the tutorial because I cannot get pass the swamp level where the stupid hands come out and grab you.

I thought Castlevania games were supposed to be about Dracula? I didn't see anything to do with Dracula in those trailers.

My brother, who is a Castlevania fan, hates this game and it seems other Castlevania fans do too.

I, however, have always sucked at those games and could never get into them, so I maybe I will try this one.

I don't think the castlevania games have been about dracula since symphony of the night.
