New Case?

Hey im in the buisness for a new rig and need help with the case. My computer will have a 3500+ and a 6800 Ultra. Im going to only have 1 HD and 1 optical drive. I plan on overclocking the ultra and cpu. keep in mind im not a hardcore overclocking, just something modest. so what im asking is how important are the fans? should i have atleast 2? im very lost with cooling. Also what brands make good cases? thanks for the replies.

*EDIT*

You could try to buy an Antec case and a good quality antec Power Supply. At least 430W if you're using alot of drives coupled with your cpu/gfx combo.

I would start of with 1 120 mm intake fan and 1 exhaust fan. That should probably be enough for you.

Yes, consider a few Antec cases. Antec Super Lanboy is small, light and flashy looking plus it has 2 120mm fans to keep everything cool and quiet. The SLK3700xxx Solution Series is refined looking and uses the same 2 fans. The Sonata is very nice looking and super quiet. Whatever you choose, consider a case with 2 120mm fans to QUIETLY move enough air for those hot components. The cases come with 1 or both fans. If you need an additional fan, consider the Panaflo L1A as the best 120mm fan available.

Definitely get a nice good quality power supply.

If you have money to spend, there's 3 that I would recommend.

OCZ Powerstream
Antec Neopower
Modright modular psu (found at frozencpu.com, they have it on the right side on the main page)

Along with the Antec cases, you might look at Coolermaster for the Wavemaster and Stacker. Also, Thermaltake has just released a ripoff of the Wavemaster that has a lot of nice features.

I am planning on building a rig with a 3500+ and a 6800 Ultra and I plan to get a Lian-Li V1100. Although I imagine this is not one of the best value for money cases you could get

so the amount of fans you have isnt that important? also are 120mm fans better? im glad to hear that two fans will be ok and thanks so much for the help guys.

120mm are better for noise, but otherwise, no. If the case takes them, use them, but it isn't THAT important. Keeping it nice and neat so there isn't a lot of blocked air flow is more important.

Yes. The Evercase will cool a bit better, but the Sonata is easier to work with, and looks better...and unless it is in a corner or in a cabinet, the difference in cooling capablility shouldn't matter for you.

Thank you so much cerb and everyone else.

Note that input fans ARE nice -- for one reason.

If all you have is a couple of exhaust fans, then air will be sucked in from everyplace -- around the edges of your optical drives, around the edges of your PCI card back plates, around the edges of your back mobo conectors. In short, having only exhaust fans will get dust and dirt sucked in from every possible crack in your system.

If you add input fans to match your output fans, then you will not get air being sucked in from every possible crack. You will need to dust off the fans every so often, but the rest of your system should stay clean.

BTW, even with the overclock and the big heatsink with no fan on the video card, I am just using the one stock 120mm rear fan. You can add 80mm fans on the front and the side.
