New case recommendations.

I currently have an antec super lanboy. It has been a decent case but is rather small and cramped. I'm looking to replace it. Here are a few preferences in a new case.

[*]Good airflow

[*]Reasonably quiet operation

[*]Don't care if it's 120mm or 80 mm

[*]Doesn't have to have a window or fancy lights

[*]At least two 5.25 drive bays for DVD/CDRW

[*]I don't have a floppy but might as well have a spot for one just in case

[*]Must have internal space for at least two hard drives

[*]I want it to be good out of the box, no cutting holes for extra fans

[*]Priced ~100 or so

[*]Doesn't have to have a PS. If it meets all the above and still has one then that's OK.

thanks.

Beantech Igloo 1 (same as Kingwin 424 which has been discontinued) at http://www.directron.com - great case at amazing price (best Alum. case for the money that I know of) - only silver left when they're gone I guess there will be no more...
The Kingwin 523 is nice for a bit more bling. Some of the Coolermaster Centurion series w/120 fans are about the same inside as the KW 523. both have good casitude.
The Antec SLK-3000-B (best price is still at Provantage.com, I think) is also a lot of case for the money - the door is a bit flimsy. The Compucase 6A19 also from directron is about the same as the 3000-B inside - just a diff bezel - no door.

. The Ever Case 4292 series (also sold under the AMS brand). They have a new series that is good too and has 120mm fan mounts f/r.

thanks for the info and the links.

My current setup in my super lanboy has my cpu temp ~70C on idle. Of course this is with a p4 3.2e and the stock hs/fan. So I took the side panel off last night and temps dropped a good 10C. So they were around 56 - 57C. I also took a small box fan and aimed it in the case and they dropped another 6 - 9C.

So with that said, is there going to be any combination of case and new hs/fan that will give me similar results? I'm in GA and the weather's just starting to turn hot now so I know it's gonna get worse.

i swaped out the fans in my case and replaced the stock hsf with a zalman 7000 alcu and my temps dropped in my super lanboy. the stock fans are quiet but slow. i threw in the antec blue led 120mm fans to keep the lighting but they push another ~20 cfm and weren't much louder to me, if at all. if you don't mind black fans you could probably do even better. also cleaned up my case wiring which probably made a difference too.

Roughly how much did your temps drop? I don't mind getting a new hs/fan but i don't want to do just that if it'll only do a few degress lower.

I actually replaced my original 120mm fans a while ago with osme "quiet" fans that are no more quieter than the originals. I can't remember the cfm but it's not much lower. I may put back in the originals but if a new case is needed then I'll just do that.

i put higher flowing fans in mine, the stock ones weren't pushing much air. if you went to slower fans that might be a reason why your temps are high. my a64 3700+ idles at about 40c, i believe i got around a 10c drop with the fans and hsf when i was running a 3400+. i already had this stuff when i got the 3700+ so i have nothing to measure against.

i have a case with 5x 80mm fans that will go cooler, but it sounds like a tornado and since my pc is in my room i tried to get away from that. i also did things like moving the hdd around so it wasn't disrupting flow. dunno if that helped at all really.

I see the CM Cavalier T03 is on sale right now at both Newegg and SVC - ~$50. AR.+sh
A nice looking case and you can hinge the door on either side.
