OK, just to see who likes the new Altima or Camry better. I like the interior for the SE package in the Camry, but I vow NEVER to drive an automatic, ever.

The Altima does, bigger tires, optional Xenon headlamp (makes you look like you have a 35k plus vehicle), 240 3.5 v6 then a 5 speed manual. Of course sticker price for the one I want is $26k

I wonder if/when Toyota will ever make Xenon lamps a standard feature of the Camry LE?

Probably years away from that since it seems to be a premium option.

Zenon headlamps are very important. If you don't have those, you're a nobody.

Yeah, make sure everyone gets those bulbs stock... lord knows I was able to put an entire supercharger in my truck and plan on pulling the engine to replace with a stroker myself... but man those bulbs... they best come from the factory cause it's hard to put in 8.99 Xenon bulbs :Q

Yes, I want headlights so bright that they will cause fires if shined on dry grass. :p

As for choosing between the Camry and Altima: on paper, I prefer the Altima. I would have to test-drive both to make a decision.

Money-wise, if I had to buy one new I would go for the Camry because it would hold its value better.

If you change the title of this thread to Altima vs. Camry, I bet the poll would get a lot more responses.

I too went through this train of thought.

I put in the deposit for the 2002 Altima SE several months ago and when it finally arrived i was awed by the body and handling, but was most definitely turned off by the "cheap" interior plastic used, especially on the door panels.

I instead opted to get the 2002 Maxima, sure it's a rather "old" style but what's inside counts just as much. The maxima looks a lot better inside and outside plus it gets a larger 255hp engine and HID, ABS, EBD is standard. I got the SE for only $200 over invoice.

The funny part is it actually cost me a lot less (several hundreds) to get a more full-featured car (Maxima) than a totally stripped down Altima.

Just wondering, was the dealer going to make you pay close to sticker for the Altima?

Somewhat, the Altima was at MSRP. But after figuring a Maxima SE and an Altima (both at MSRP) with the features already built-into the Maxima (e.g. HID lights, ABS, EBD) the Maxima still came out cheaper. And you get a 255hp engine to boot.

I also liked how the Maxima just felt more solid and had a "thud" when closing doors. The Altima felt somewhat flaky and a bit noisy inside compared to the Maxima on the highway.
