new cards before HL2?

I remember reading there will be new cards out from both ATi and Nvidia before the end of the year, but is there much chance they'll appear before HL2?

I ask because I'm going to upgrade before HL2 is released (now expected to be Sept 30th again), so am trying to figure out if there's any reason to wait or just buy now and enjoy it on other new games e.g. Halo. There isnt likely to be much price cuts on the 9800pro in 6 weeks is there? I think the cheapest one (crucial's) ive been looking at has gone down like £10/$15 in the past 2+ months.

edit: running on a oc'd GF3ti200 right now.
 
The new Radeon (the 9900) is rumoured to be shipping with HL2 included on the retail box, so I'm guessing the ATi card will probably be out around the same time as HL2. Probably after if anything.
 
I doubt we'll see any dramatic price cuts with the 9800's for a while, even after their new card is out. Right now ati's line of cards are so dominant and are already priced better than most of nvidia's, so there really is no reason for them to cut prices.
 
Just look at the recent trend of prices of cards, and where they are at a year later. It would *appear* in my research that the top of the line cards drop about $8-$10 a month until they reach the "middle of the pack" in comparison to the rest of the cards. Then their prices drop considerably.

So in 1 year time, I think you will see the Radeon 9800 PRO priced approximately $100 less then it is now, and in the next 3 months I would expect that price to drop about $25-30.

That's at least the conclusion I came to, and as such I just ordered the R9800 PRO yesterday for $330 shipped.
