Hi, ok well im a computer noob right, so please bear with me. I've looked around, and it's obvious that the ATI radeon 9800 pro 128mb version smokes the Nvidia geforce fx 5900 128mb version right? But ive never seen the system specs of the systems that are running them. I have a biostar M7NCD(nforce 2 chipset) mobo, an Athlon xp 2500+, 768mb's of DDR400 ram(1x256, 1x512), 20gb maxtor hard drive(i dont understand how you guys need such big hard drives, i have 7 gigs free and i d/l movies all the time, i just burn them), 450watt generic psu, 1 lg cdrom, 1 lg cdrw.....umm thats all i can think of that would have any bearing. O ya, the only game i play is americas army, and it is tailored for nvidia, i want more fps, so my question is 9800 pro, or 5900, now that you have my info, can someone please help

Thanks, Graeme

Whoah! Paragraphing is your friend. Here, I spaced out your ideas a bit more legibly (above) ^.

That said, I wouldn't say a 9800 Pro 128MB 'smokes' the 5900 128MB - they're pretty close.

That said, price being equal, I'd definately go for the 9800 Pro - it is a bit faster. If the price difference is more than $25 or so in Nvidia's favor, I'd get the Nvidia card.

Just make sure it's a true 5900 that you're looking at, and not a slower "XT" or "LE" version.

I'd go with that card You feel is more future proofed. They might release a new version of the game. The 9800 Pro would be my choice but I wouldn't pay anymore then 175.00 USD. FS/FT and Egay are good places to look for deals.

The game is taloired to nvidia, however it is directX9 and ATI has an advantage over the nvidia. I would go with the 9800 pro.

NOTE: are you talking about the 5900ultra? or 5900nu? if it is the non-ultra, the 9800pro is head and shoulders above it.

P.S. What clan are you in for AA? if you are in one.

wow thanks for the quick replys, i still havn't made my mind up, i think that i will wait for more people to reply, but still, thanks

sorry for the non paragraphing, and im sure that it is a non xt or LE, it's the pny nvidia geForce 5900, and the sapphire 9800pro 128mb lite version

Graeme

ya im talking about the non-ultra, im canadian so stuff is really expensive here, i hate it. I'm in honor unlimited, =[HU]=, we usually play weapons cache. Are you in a clan?

I was in [UoE] for a while, i think they are called [EMU] now. I was also in TGS (teen girl squad) for a bit. But i don't really play much anymore. (got 60 honor then realized how much time i was wasteing)Anyway, what part of canada are you from? and DO NOT GET THE 9800 PRO LITE! it is a complete rip off of a card and it is more comparable to the 9600XT rather than the 9800 pro. At all future shop and Best buy locations in canada you can get an ATI 9800pro for 299.99. Cheaper than you can find it on the net. I would go with that.

i live in Sault ste. Marie, its right on the michigan border, we don't have a best buy, and all of the crappy local retailers sell 9800 pro's for like 400$. I think I've played against [UoE] before, im pretty sure they were good.

How is the lite version a rip off, i thought it was the same as the regular sapphire card, but with less software?

Graeme

I drove through sue st. marie, i still remember they had the best pizza ever. If you don't have a future shop then i would recommend e-bay or a road trip.

And about the lite version of the sapphire card i wasn't sure if you were talking about the 128 bit arcitecture vs. just the 9800 pro without the software pack (actully i forgot about the 2nd option). Please give a link to the vid cards that you will be buying so we can check them out.

Site With all canadian retailers

ncix.com is another good site if you want to check it out.

Actually, it's Sault Saint Marie (but still pronounced 'soo saint marie' ).

nope, mostly new. i have had nothing but good experiances myself

edit: wow just about anything will give you more fps than your card

well knowing that I might consider it, but i wouldn't mind paying a bit of extra money for convenience, i forgot about his website, hes a retailor in my city, who will pick up the cash from my house whenever I ask him too, and then drop off the part 2 days later

well the site is down right now, but it's a ATI 9800 pro, for like 350 i think

Graeme, but I might consider ebay, a freind of mine has account, cawchy you might have played AA with him, his name is TSO_Peacekeeper, hes damn good

I remember playing with him, don't remember how good he was or anything tho. Anyway, if your willing to pay for convenience, then there is nothing wrong with that. Don't blame you. just letting you know there are cheaper options out there.
