100 bucks?

prolly a nvidia geforce 6600 AGP will do for you. you might need to bump up the ram though. 256MB isnt cutting it these days. i barely get on with my 512MB.

If you can avoid eating at Applebees for one night, bump the card up from a 6600 to a 6600GT... should run you an extra $40 bucks or so and you'll get a HUGE jump in performance for the one night less at Applebees.

If you want to play games like NFS:MS and keep even remotely up with the Jones's on gaming, I wouldn't get less then a 6600GT. No point in buying a 6600 or 9800XT... both of those cards are already long in the tooth on gaming. You'll just be wanting to upgrade in a couple of more months if you cut corners on a gaming video card now.

Skip a night out at Applebees... eat a PB&J sandwich instead and get the cheapest 6600GT you can find... you'll thank me later.

P.S.
Oh, and upgrade that memory too! You need a MINIMUM of 512MB in today's world... 1GB would be nice, but for the love of God, at least bring the system up to 512MB. A single stick of 256MB memory should hardly set you back at all (maybe a trip to Dominos).

lol i love how these threads spin out of control and eventually there will be people recommending 7800gtx 512mbs. how bout sticking ot his requests? a 6600 is fine though you will want ot overclock it. a better chice at $100 is a 9800pro. it's as fast as a heavily overclocked 6600 and yet has rom for even more performance from overclokcing and a possible bios flash to a modified 9800xt.

Aye, it you're gonna stretch for a 6600gt, should stretch a little more gor a gto and a HUGE bunp in performance. But if you're gonna do that, might as well spend a little more and... you know the rest.

Anyways, a 6600 or a 9800pro are good choices for $100, the 9800p is a bit faster, but both should be close when OC'd to the max.

LOL... I love how people think "sticking to his requests" mean only certain parts of his statement (like price alone) and completely ignoring other parts of his request (like playing NFS:MS and other games).

I suppose if he said he wanted to play FEAR at 1600x1200 with everything on max detail and only had $50 bucks for a video card, you would blast anybody who told him to spend more for a better video card because we weren't sticking to his $50 price point.

You guys need to relax with your laughing at people for trying to help... I gave an honest answer and we're only talking a few more bucks. I didn't recomend a $300 card, so you guys need to get your "holier-then-thou" attitudes put in check because you focused only on one aspect of his request. Way to act like a bunch of elitists because you can read half of what he requested. I personally think he'd be better off spending a few bucks more for a card he's going to be happier with down the road.

I also tried putting things in perspective... sometimes people say "I only want to spend x-amount", then will go out and blow $40 bucks for one night out for dinner, when the same cash could give them a year or longer of computer happiness. What's worth more... one dinner or a year or longer of fast computing? Let the OP be the judge instead of smashing somebody for offering an opinion.

Try helping people instead of mocking others who try to help.

maybe you should read what he's saying. He's probably stretching his budget. It'll cost him 3500 Rupees. That's a lot of money in India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Mauritius, Seychelles or Nepal for the average person, and you want him to step it up to 4.5-5k? I play need for speed most wanted fine at 1024x768 max settings except for aa(medium and shadows(off, there is a common shadow problem in nfsmw for some cards that cause farcry like bad looking shadows on low or high). I played qukae 4 at high all no aa 1024x768. I played Fear at 1024x768 high all but textures and lighting(medium) and shadows(off). I palyed Farcry at 1024x768 high. I palyed Half Life 2 at 1152x864 2xaa all others maxed. Tell me why he shopuld pay for something he dosent need, espicalyl when it costs so much more?

also look at his system config. It's not middle, but a budget build. A 6600gt is a cheap but still not budget card. He has limits he wants to stick to and so let him.

calm down yuo get offended by the most benign thinks. take some valium or something. I did help. Do you think i wasted forum space posted just to insult you like you're doing to me? If you want this to get ugly, this can but I'd rather help the guy.

It was you who poked at my post first, so don't get upset when somebody calls you on your jabs... or did you expect "free make fun of other people day".

All I said was the price differance between a 6600 and 6600GT is not that big, and you'll get a good boost out of performance... was that soooooo horrible you had to do your best to question the integrity of my post? You even infered that it'll end up being a 7800GTX recomendation, when I made no such mention. GT cards often run as little as $20 more then a non-GT card... let the OP decide if that's worth it or not... is too much knowledge so offensive that you have to stab at the guy who offers free advice?

You have an opinion, I have an opinion... you do not need to jab at others simply because they are not the same. I said consider the differance... if he chooses it's too much, then that's his choice, but that in no means gives you the right to poke fun at someone suggesting a differant possibility that is within reason.

try to find a used 9800 pro. Should work fine for that system you have, but you really are going to need more ram.
