I'm not doubting the purchase, but however nicely made a Scion is for its price, it's still a Scion.
Why? Because I can pack a lot more boxes and parcels for work in an Xb than a GT. It's function over form.
Scion = Toyota
This vehicle has a very high customer satsifaction rating in a wide range of reports, not the least being the real time , real world reports from other drivers with the same vehicle.
My only complaint so far is no armrest on the center.

However, if he can tolerate its appearance it looks like a really functional car. I thought that a couple nights ago walking past one; they're quite large and with seats folded down would be able to transport quite a bit of stuff. 35k is low, too, so it should go for many years.
Actually I think I got a decent deal, paid less than $750.00 cash, got rid of the paperweight that was the Focus, and am saving $$ driving this rather than the Silverado.

KBB sez it should be about $13,090 from a dealer, I paid $10k and still have a bank account with money in it.

I'm good.

Cus it's a horribly ugly/underpowered car and he overpaid for it.

This. I couldn't care less about it being hideous. Some people like it, some don't. However, 10,000 for a car that cost 12,000 three years ago is a really shitty deal.
I don't know about that. I shopped this car in '06 and it was $15K new- ish then.
$12,000 would have to be a stripped down model.

That's actually a pretty good price for the low mileage. I also have a 2005 xB (just under 35K miles too) and it's been a great first car for me. The gas mileage is great and it's been relatively trouble-free. Make sure you get the engine checked out before the warranty expires as there was an issue with the VVT-i (camshaft gear/controller). The code that will come up is P0012 if the problem hasn't already been fixed.

The xB has never been $12K, ever. The base price was $13,680/$14,480 (standard/auto) and was easily augmented with a few add-ons, tax, etc. My 2005 xB is the RS 2.0, so I paid even more for mine (just over $15K).

They are mostly pissed about their own cars I guess.

Scions aren't my type of car, but they are very popular and many love the styling.

And you think your SRT is a good looking car? They look like a kid with down's and almost everyone I see getting out of one has that same crooked ball cap and mid calf shorts.

well:
a)you can carry more in an XB
b)probably has a nicer interior
c)can carry more people
d)probably won't be as unreliable
e)likely get better gas mileage

I don't understand the hate either. Sure they aren't pretty but they are unique and not really that ugly.

I did have a laugh at one guy driving one the other day who had decided to jack up the rear suspension so it had a dragster type lean. No idea what the purpose of it was for though.

I've owned a couple Mustang GTs over the years and they were both very reliable.

You can laugh but the mustang GT I rode in from the era had a rather depressing interior. That is when the owner had an interior as stuff kept going wrong with it requiring the shop to let her drive it without all the correct pieces until new parts came in.

It's quite interesting to see someone with Mustang bashing Scion for interior/exterior. Interior/exterior is totally subjective. And Mustang's interior/exterior is no better than that of any Scion to non-Mustang lover like me, anyway. Neither is known for great interior/exterior, nor crappy interior/exterior. They are just so-so.

And what kind of attitude is saying Scion is crappy in a thread about Scion purchase? Grow up and show some respect, people.

Well, that's your opinion and you're wrong.
KBB says suggested retail of $13,090, the '01 Focus SE is a piece of crap and no car is worth shit sitting with a dead motor, no matter what the body style does to your penis.
Plus, I only paid the State Fees and sales tax and financed at 7%.

I'ld say I did ok.

While the fit and finish isn't as solid as some vehicles, it has already passed the most important test, reliability, in that several other drivers for our company have this same vehicle and they love it.

I did my entire route yesterday on half the amount of gas I was using with the truck, so I'm ahead of the game there, too.

So some of you don't like it? Boo hoo.... I'm so broken up about it. I'm smart enough to know it's just a tool and nothing more.

Yep. I stated my opinion. More power to you. Good luck with it.

hitch-hiked in an xB yesterday.... a ton of room, very impressive for a compact car. personally i would take the honda fit but both are great cars for modern times (economical, spacious, "green")

No one buys an srt4 for it's looks. They only buy it for one thing. If you don't know what that is then sorry for you.

The Honda Fit can't qualify as a great car until it gets a center armrest

IF he wanted it and was happy with the price then he didn't over pay for it.

I personally do not like them, but everyone has their likes and dislikes. That's why we have so many choices when it comes to vehicles.

To the OP.

I test drove an '09 Scion late last year. I didn't like the looks of the xB and the xD came with wheel covers only. It had a huge turning circle too. It's not my car though - in the end as long as the OP is happy with his ride that's all that counts. :)
