Yeah wish it was a stick. But there were not many around where i am at and almost all of them were plain models, no goodies.

That grand am has some notorious steering rack issues. Kinda knew going in that a lot of them go bad, and i could not see myself spending 1500 bucks to fix the rack and the wheel bearings. Between that and the intake manifold gasket/dexcool disaster i am glad to be out from that thing. Kinda sad that at 80k the thing was becoming a money pit, no wonder GM is in the dump :)

The base MSRP on the Astra is $17K w/o options. What did you get (if anything) for your trade-in or did they pay it off for you. FWIW I would have gone with a Civic for that price. I bought my wife a 2007 Civic LX 18 months ago for pennies more and it may be worth more now then it was then.

Tell us, what's so great about the Astra that made you pay that much for it?

i'm curious how you ended up with $16k in financing as well. online, i optioned out an astra XR 5door at $23,105 (fwiw).

that being said, i hope you enjoy it. it seems like a nice little car! can't wait for the pics! :)

Sunroof, auto, audio, and sports suspension add quite a bit. Only option it does not have is leather. So the car was right around 22K. They dont have a ton of incentives on these right now, but for the segment its in i like to looks the best. Its not going to win any stoplight races for sure, but i have a triumph daytona 675 for that
My grand am was worth nothing, 3500 bucks. I could have tried to sell it myself but in my location there is no way i would have been able to get out of it. Best to let the deal inherit the problem.

Congrats on the new ride! I got a 2008 Saturn Astra XR 3 door 5 speed on Monday. Mine is silver sand outside and charcoal interior with the handling package + 18", audio, and leather. I didn't like the sun roof because here in FL even with the tint and 'shade' closed I could still feel the sun bearing down through it.

As far as the manual vs. auto, no worries. I drove both and IMO they both have advantages and disadvantages. Plus, it's not like the Astra is a race car in either model. ;)

If you haven't already done it go over to ( LINK ) and join the forum.
