New Car Review: 2004 Scion xB **Updated 5/20**

I beg to differ, recently Toyota's designs have blown ass...even spilling over to Lexus in some cases

Camry - The front end is way too exaggerated, the high beltline makes it look very bathtub-ish
Celica - HAH! I won't even get started on why I hate the looks of that car, it's fine from the fenders forward
MR2 - Hideous, god awful headlights/tail lights, stupid scoop on the doors, an atrocity compared to the previous gen MR2
Corolla - looks like a mini Camry, looks taller than it is wider, almost like a clown car, the S version's accents make the car looks more ridiculous
Echo - Horrid
1st gen Prius - thumbs down
As for the Lexuses - The RX330 looks... robotic, not to mention the stupid tail lights (the 1st gen was much better), and the ES330 looks weird as well, suffers from the exaggerated front like the Camry, very high belt line with flat sides looks funny, that combined with small-looking wheels makes it look like a toy car, especially with the apparent high ground clearance

Sorry but Toyota has just released some terrible designs IMO... Like many other Japanese manufacturers (Nissan, Honda, Mitsubishi) they've been making some outrageously fugly cars, and I can't quite put my finger on why...

It must be a joke when it's loaded with cargo and 4/5 people

Otherwise, it's different...but I wouldn't be caught dead driving one. If I need something to haul people/cargo with, you can bet for damn sure it'll have more than 108 HP

It has the same power:weight ratio as a Nissan Xterra or V6 Explorer.

Yeah, the thing only weighs 2,395 lbs
A Mini Cooper weighs 2,524 lbs and has 115HP

Toyota Celica, RAV4, Echo, Matrix, Prius and all the Scion cars are some to ugliest things on the road.
Camry, Corolla, and Avalon are boring, I agree with that. Toyota has one thing going for it, and that's quality.

blah, the terrible aztek design counts 100 fold....

toyota is just boring... the echo.. ok, that was bad... but the scion's? sure, I personally think they're ugly.. but ppl like em... and that design is essentially everywhere in japan... that's all they can fit 😛

What are you smoking? I just looked it up

xb = 2500 lbs - 105HP
Explorer V6 = 4200LBS (base) - 210 HP

The Explorer is some 800 lbs away from the power to weight ratio of the xB. Not to mention the torque ratio, the torque of the Explorer is 245 vs the xB's 108

even the Xterra beats the xB out by a couple of pounds per HP.

I'll give you the Echo and Celica...

But the RAV4 is pretty damed normal:

The Prius is borderline....as is the Matrix

Wow, the RAV4 is uglier than I thought 🙁, look like a big frog sitting by a pond. All the curves and lines are in the wrong place.

Pass the bong over here😛

Scion xB: Curb Weight: 2395 lbs.

2395 for a standard - 2450 for the auto, let's compare apples to apples, the Explorer and Xterra are autos too.

Not that it matters, even at 2395 it still doesn't have the power to weight ratio of the Explorer or dozens of other SUVs, so stuff that in your bong and smoke it, hippie 😛

Oh, and the Car and Driver article you linked is where I got 2500 from, 2508 to be exact. They weigh their cars wet (all fluids, ready to run, etc).

If it were apples to apples, we wouldn't be comparing a runabout based on an Echo to a truck based Xterra or Explorer.

Either way, you were wrong😉

No, klah was wrong in stating the power to weight ratios were the same 🙂 Even if we're not comparing apples to apples

Not ugly...boring 😀

GM makes the ugly sh!t 😀 (Avalanche, Aztek, Escalade, Sunfire, Cavalier, Impala, Rendezvous)

i see you conveniently ignore the es330 and the sc430.

ever see the back seat of an sc430? only person who could sit back there is an amputee. can't even get kids back there i think. why even bother? that and the belt line of the car is so high i bet you feel like you're not in a convertible. that car makes everyone look short.

and the prius looks like the aztek part deux. they have almost the exact same profile. stick some plastic on the sides and you couldn't tell the difference

I totally like the Mazda 3s hatch over this. But the Mazda 3 competes with Corollas, Civics and Sentras. The xB competes with Suzukis, low-end Hyundia's and Kias.

I just don't understand why you want to go from a 95 Camry to a [budget] Scion (info taken from one of your posts in another ATOT thread)?

I want the Scion tC...not the dinky little xB 😛

Mazda 3s = getting raped on options (close to $20,000 optioned the way I want)
Scion tC = roughly $17,800 just the way I want it and with much nicer features too (IMHO).

I actually like the looks of the tC over the Mazda3s and I'd take my chances with Toyota reliability and resale over Mazda. As for the Camry vs tC. My Camry is 10 years old with 145,000 on the odometer. It's time to kick this baby to the curb while I can still get a decent amount of $$$ off trade-in (especially at the rate that I'm racking up miles).

I get about 28 mpg in the city and I flog it on a daily basis when I deliver pizzas 😛

Hmmm.. don't know how I got those Explorer numbers mixed up. But it is better than an Xteraa 4x4.

Here are some better comparisons to more similar vehicles, all with autos. Figures from Edmunds.

xB 2450lbs/108hp
Focus LX Sedan: 2606lbs/110hp
Hyundai Accent: 2350lbs/104hp
Kia Rio Wagon: 2447lbs/104hp
VW Jetta GL Wagon: 3089lbs/115hp
VW Beetle Conv: 3153lbs/115hp
Chevy Aveo: 2365lbs/103hp

So its inline with the other sub-14k econoboxes.

$16k? Damn, buy a corolla.

You kinda miss the point, why cram into a tiny corolla, this thing is about space, I don't know, I've never been attracted to cars like this before (not mainstream) but I can kinda understand why someone would have this, I mean it would be fun for road trips and stuff, not that I'd buy one, 4bangers aren't really my thing heh.

I am really interested in the tC too, now I am just wishing it got a little better gas mileage...
