im so sad my 92corolla with 245k miles finally died the other day, the day after i took it to get repaired from when it got broken into. right now im driving a complimentary car from work its so nice (lexus is350) but i have to give it back friday.

my only requirements are:
awd or rwd
manual
good engine
LSD(would be nice)
turbo(hard to find in america)

i was looking around and was thinking about

99 impreza 2.5rs
98 240sx
93 rx-7
2005 corolla xrs(not awd or rwd but its fast)

any others that you guys can think of? keep in mind ive had my corolla for 5years(since ive owned it) and its time i splurge my self on a sports car, price limit...15kish

$15k would be a perfect budget for an 03-04 WRX in good condition. That should meet your requirements (AWD, manual, good turbo'ed engine, etc.)

Avoid the '98-'99 2.5RS. For one thing, those should run at or under $10k. For another, they have the problematic Phase I DOHC engine with the headgasket issues. If you want an RS, an '00 or '01 with the Phase II engine would be much better, cost up to about $12k or so depending on mileage/condition.

When I have a budget I like to just pop it in autotrader and narrowly filter yrs, miles, and money, and see what pops up.
Sometimes Caddies filter in, Lexus etc where you wouldn't expect them to

if u r getting used then keep in mind that you will get a newer car if u go domestic and an older car if u go import. i think going premium is a good idea. used corolla's n subies seem overpriced to me. i would suggest a caddi cts or a lex gs300....or, i am lookin for a buyer for my bro's 2005 chrysler 300 w/ <32,000miles. 😛

engine swap. $1000 max.

even if i swap an engine, it still has 245k miles

so? all that matters is the condition of the body, not how many miles it has on it.

I agree, there are only two things that really limits a car and that is engine and tranny. If you replace the two then its good to go for another 200K miles and it will be cheaper then buying another car. Get the engine swapped out and the trans rebuilt and your good to go. All the rest is maint parts.

But if you want AWD or RWD and fast, a Jeep Cherokee with a 4.0 inline 6 hauls ass pretty quick, easy to work on, parts are cheap, and if your not to tall can be quite comfortable. Doesnt hurt that it has massive ground clearance stock and can go pretty much anywhere.

06+ Mazda 6 or an 07 Civic, the 06 isn't built as tough as the 07's are.

EDIT: Didnt see that you wanted only rwd or awd.

An AWD 1995 Eclipse or Talon TSi would f-in rock though. Put a few dollars to rice it up a bit, and you'll have one nice ass car. 🙂

My god, we've had 4 Hondas (Civics and Accords) in the family all with exhaust pipe problems... 3 separate times they've fallen off ON THE HIGHWAY and we've had to call a towtruck. This is NY so it's not like the climate promotes eroding a lot more... they must have the cheapest OEM pipes out there. Or something's wrong in the design. Never again, just because of this.
