If you can't enjoy a car because of how it actually drives rather than some preconceived notion of what it should be you'll be doomed to pay more and enjoy what you have less. I agree that the previous generations had relatively sad V8 offerings but the base drive trains in these cars are getting downright impressive.

Well I'd never buy one new anyways, so I'd for sure get the top of the line engine option on a used one if I were to buy one.. if I couldn't afford one, I sure as hell wouldn't skimp on a base model.

Why even bother with an impractical car if you don't care about going fast? Just get a nice 4 door and have something that will be a good commuter.

It won't be *as* fast but to say the 2.0T Genesis is slow is not completely true (I think it does a sub 7 run to 60). It should still be fun enough to drive on anything but a drag strip.

He posts in a thread seeking either input or validation. Does he just want 100 people to come by and give him a high five?

something like that. what i didn't want was people telling me to get the V6 version though. I have a price point (max $25k, preferably towards $20k) and I'm sticking to it. Since I have a bike, there's no point to trying to get a fast car, because that would require a lot more money than it's worth.

Suggesting the mustang is fine - if someone were looking at the genesis, I'd suggest it to them for sure. I knew I didn't want one to begin with, though.

My suggestion is to stick with your Passat if the only thing wrong is your headlights...just return them to stock, get situated in your current job and get to the point where going from the 2.0T to the V6 of the Genesis goes from "affordable" to "out of my range". At that point you can make a more "open" decision on whether you really want the Genesis. In the end you will be happier if you wait till you can properly afford the vehicle you end up buying.

My only suggestion was to skip the Genesis and maybe go for the Accent since it's more practical, less expensive, and will have the 2.0T sometime soon. I personally see little value in going with a 2 door unless you are purely focused on performance and have the hardware to back it up.

well I was going to say to wait for the ft-86, but it's going to be a scion and 25k and have some lame-ass scion styling instead of the ft-86 styling. Toyota just keeps fucking this one up.

The only thing is we don't know the durability of all these new Hyundais (i'm not assuming they're bad, they just haven't been around as a legitimate car company for long enough to know). I think the 2.0T would be good, and Hyundai said they wanted to make it mod-friendly, so if you decide you wanna go BT, go for it! there's that new 2.0t coming in the sonata which I'm sure will carryover to the genesis but I'm skeptical about 17psi on regular fuel.

LOL wut?

The Toyota FT-86 is confirmed as the next Toyota Celica replacement. Officially, it is likely to be simply called an Eight-Six, the spiritual Corolla "Hachi-roku" successor. And the styling has been out forever.

The FT-86 is also not going to be a cheap car. Probably will be more expensive than the Genesis Coupe to start, closer to a V6 probably.

I have the 3.8 Track Genesis Coupe and love it. I really thought about getting the 2.0T myself and modding it later, but changed my mind. Did that with my 04 GLI and decided to keep it minimal this go around.

If you do decide to get it, shoot me a PM. I can help you out with the cost.

Yeah I've decided to get the genesis. I'm in the process of applying for loans - right now I have a rather lowly salary but in 2 months I will be making stupid amounts, so I'm not sure whether I'll have to wait or not (and I don't want anyone to cosign)

i have a solid amount of cash and virtually 0 living costs (live at home to save $$, will probably move out by summer).

supporting the car payment, down payment, etc, is not a problem financially.

if i end up needing to wait, then so be it. we'll see i guess.

What are you going to be doing in a couple months? I looking for something to get into making stupid amounts of money right now.

engineer for the .gov

stupid amounts being relative to what i earned as a student.

Congrats! If you are like most of the engineers I know, you will go with the better value and not be suckered in with the emotional need for the flashy engine. To me, this is a good quality to have.

looks good, now time for mods?! needs bigger turbo
