Yes it is, its an option for the 2009 SRT-8 Challenger, and the 2009 is coming with all sorts of goodies, so maybe we can expect an improvement yet.

The '09 SRT8 is virtually identical to its '08 counterpart, with the main difference being the choice of either a 5-speed automatic or a 6-speed manual transmission. Standard features include big Brembo brakes, a special suspension, bi-xenon headlamps, heated leather sport seats, keyless go, Sirius satellite radio, and 20-inch forged aluminum wheels in addition to most amenities offered on the lower R/T and SE grades like air conditioning and cruise control.[14] In addition, the 2009 will have a true "limited slip" differential.

As for the auto versus manual: I'm sure the Corvette's auto gearbox is nice, but I sort of doubt the same is true with a car that's probably half the price.

Also, and this is personal, I prefer manual 100% to automatic gearboxes, the shifts are too early, torque can't build up, and its just unengaging. With a manual I feel far more connected, but hey, I guess it's not for everyone.

I bought the vette because it was a killer deal. I now have a 5 speed Sky RL and am far happier.

Forgive my ignroance, but is a Sky RL a form of transmission or automobile?

This is a really uplifting conversation. :(

Where are you getting that. We have a 23K econo car doing the 'Ring with a time of 8:22. That kind of time was reserved for super cars 20 years ago.

There are plenty of awesome new cars out there today including the Camaro coming out (seems to be getting very good reviews) and certainly new "atainable" super cars like the Nissan GT-R and Vette ZR-1. Not to mention fantastic sports cars like the regular Vette, STI, EVO, and BMW 1 Series. Don't forget fantastic touring cars like the A5/S5 or the fantastic new Jag XK. Plenty of great cars out there...just nothing built by Chrysler.

He said Charger and you went on to say how it is available for the Challenger.

W00ps, yeah you're right. I didn't catch that, I was all wrapped up in the Challenger discussion. Also, I think originally the Challenger is automatic only, like the 2008 SRT-8, but the 2009s are going to have manual options.

Which is shame because Top Gear is reviewing the Challenger next episode, and they're going to hate it because its an '08 model. And I doubt they'll bring on the '09.

I kind of agree. I still think, for some odd reason, that the Challenger 2009 has immense potential, although I will say that Chrysler should have died in the 1970's, their management team is inept and unoriginal, and why the government felt it had to bail them out is exactly why socialism and cars don't mix.

That's true, but crazySOB297 said they drove a Charger SRT8 which does not have a manual transmission.

I didn't know an SRT-8 Charger even existed.

But he mentioned the Challenger in his list of "crap" dodge cars. Well we'll have to hear from him, but I apologize unreservedly for any misunderstandings.

I didn't write the list.

I dislike the charger srt-8. The challenger is the same motor and platform, so I assume they perform near the same. Until I drive one I'm highly skeptical as to how much I'll like the car other then it's outstanding aesthetics.

I dunno, I think the Challenger should be better off, because, and I'm assuming here, it's light because it's a coupe.

No, it weighs approximately the same. It's hugely heavy. ~4100lbs or so, IIRC, but I know it was north of 2 tons.

It will probably be just fine as a big sloppy muscle car, but it will still be more sluggish and worse handling than it could have been with an 800lb weight drop.

That's not good enough. It's not good enough to just say "consumers don't care," because that's not going to sell cars. If the consumer feels they're just cutting short cuts for what should be a flagship car, then that's pathetic, and they deserve to go under, in terms of management.

And what the fuck is wrong with Dodge/Chrysler, don't they realize weight and all that or are they just retarded?

They built it on the same chassis as 300/charger because it would have cost them too much money to make a new chassis just for the car. We all know how badly they need $$$

I was up talking to the Chevy dealer and I'm really close to pulling an order for the Yellow SS (1SS Package) including the tap shifter. I have been involved with several restorations, and Since I'm not a street brawler, I just want the killer look in a docile vehicle...and this thing just gets me hard!

Make sure you get the LSD. Helps a lot with these FWD monsters.

True, that is very true. The American auto industry is in a poor state.
