New Cable Internet

Today I got new cable internet. I want to use my old WRH 125 Airstation Wiresless router to distribute the network connection to my laptop and my xbox 360. The thing is, when I connect everything together, the router is not able to obtain ip address, or it is not communicating with the server that assigns it. How am I supposed to obtain the the IP ( automatically by ISP, manually, or PPPoE). Also, how do I access a router?

I found out how to access router. Now I just need info how to make connection with my wireless router.

then set it up. there should be a page in the router's setup menu that allows for wireless connectivity. set up a secure connection... tkip or wpa... wep sucks.

I got it running but only for like 1 minute. I chose the "automatically gain ip address" option. I also tried setting up a PPPoE( I don't know what is the difference). Like other router i had netgear and this buffalo, I always loose connection very quickly. I don't really know what to do, I mean it's probably wireless router's fault. Internet works fine when I'm directly connected to it.

Make sure that you reboot the cable modem every time you switch it to a new device. For example, when you have it directly plugged into one PC and it works, unplug the power cord on the cable modem for about 30s, then plug it into the router. Dont set up PPPoE, thats for DSL.

I have another problem now. My internet connection both on desktop and notebook computer drops after like 30 minutes. As little as I read on this ezlan website, it is something to do with MAC cloning. I can only fix this by turning one computer off.

MAC cloning?? not sure what you are trying to do.. MAC cloning should not be required for Cable Modems. if it works for 30 min and dies it may be your router.. try getting a new one or trying a friends to see if it fixes the problem and remember to unplug and replug the cable modem when you switch them
