new (but same type of) motherboard = reformat?

I accidentally chipped a piece off my 8K7A board. I ordered a new 8K7A, but my concern is that I will lose all the data on my hard drive. What are the chances that I can at least boot up the drive and get the files I want? I know it would probably be unstable so I will reformat anyway after I get the files.

Well you should be really concerned if you format 😛
It should be fine.
 
I would just make sure that you do the same to the new board that you had on the old one.
Ie. Put same cards back in same slots and then boot up with the same hard drive. You shouldn't have any problem at all.
 
should be ok...make sure that you keep track which slots your periphials where installed...also make sure before you swap to look at the bios and takes notes if you changed any setting on your previous setup so you can duplicate it becfore booting up with your new Mobo

I just replaced my Asus Cusl2-C PIII 700@1015 with a P4B266 P4 1.6A on a Windows XP Pro system without reformatting and it went off without a single hitch.I've got it running @2.32ghz at default voltage.Your switch should be easy as pie😉
 
You shouldn't have to do anything besides plug everything in the same way you had it before. It shouldn't ask you for any new devices or anything. I've done it before with 2 motherboards (same type of mobo).
