Hello everyone,
I'm looking to start a new build but have been out of the loop for quite some time. I'm currently using a 28" monitor, so please keep this in mind
1. What YOUR PC will be used for. That means what types of tasks you'll be performing.
Gaming with the occasional use of Lightwave and Photoshop.
2. What YOUR budget is. A price range is acceptable as long as it's not more than a 20% spread
$2k - $2500
3. What country YOU will be buying YOUR parts from.
US.
4. IF YOU have a brand preference. That means, are you an Intel-Fanboy, AMD-Fanboy, ATI-Fanboy, nVidia-Fanboy, Seagate-Fanboy, WD-Fanboy, etc, etc, etc, you get the picture.
I really have no preference as I've been out of the loop for so long - I have always gone with nvidia though but it looks like that may change (crossfire)
5. If YOU intend on using any of YOUR current parts, and if so, what those parts are.
Only thing that I am keeping is my monitor (see above)
6. IF YOU have searched and/or read similar threads.
I have read through a lot of threads already and from those I put together a potential list but I'm not completely comfortable since it's been so long which is why I'm looking for help.
7. IF YOU plan on overclocking or run the system at default speeds.
I will probably overclock a bit, but nothing spectacular by any means.
8. WHEN do you plan to build it?
I'm hoping to build within the next couple of weeks or so.
Here's what I was looking at. Please be gentle
Intel Core 2 Duo E8600 Wolfdale
WD Caviar Black 1TB
G-Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066
G-Skill 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1066 (8 Gigs for vista?)
ASUS Rampage Formula LGA 775 Intel X48 ATX Intel Motherboard (this is one I'm unsure of)
Radeon HD4870 x 2
Thermaltake toughpower 750W (crossfire ready)
LIAN LI PC-A10B Black Aluminum Case
XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 120mm Rifle CPU Cooler
SAMSUNG Black 22X DVD+R 22X DVD-R 16X DVD-ROM
What do you think? Are there parts here that I'm skimping out on, or going overkill with others? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Mike
