New Build

Been awhile since I've posted here, I'm looking to replace most of my current computer on or around the 24th august only keeping a few recent additions, heres the old and new specs below, just looking for an opinion.

Old System -
* CPU: AMD Athlon II X4 620
* GPU: Gigabyte Radeon 5770 1gb DDR5
* MOBO: ASUS M2A-VM (yes I know its archaic but it did not give me any problems beyond not being able to label the cpu.)
* RAM: 4GB DDR2

New System -
* CPU: Intel Core i7 860 Quad Core Processor Lynnfield LGA1156 $334.51
* GPU: Gigabyte Radeon 5770 1gb DDR5 x2
* MOBO: Gigabyte P55A-UD3P ATX LGA1156 P55*
* RAM: Corsair XMS3 8GB DDR3 4X2GB DDR3-1600 CL 7-8-7-20*

i'll keep my Corsair TX650W from the old setup to power it (should be more then enough?) the Mobo and 4gb of the ram is actually a bundle at NCIX.com for $300 with a $40 MIR and ill add 2 more sticks for $121 with a $20 MIR, I wont be getting the second 5770 immediately probably a month after.

I play just about every kind of game you can imagine and I enjoy max or near max graphical detail, my most recent obsession is StarCraft II.

atm I prefer Intel over AMD, they just seem better for gaming in my experience, I live in Canada and do most of my shopping from NCIX, oh yeah and I generally play at 1920x1080.

I may OC the new setup but I wont touch that till I've replaced all the cooling and picked up a better case (this one is not ideal of OCing.)

Looks pretty good. A 650TX will be more than enough for CFX 5770's. You might want to look into the 870 because it is only a few bucks more than the 860.

interesting idea but with NCIX at least it does not really seem worth it, unless I'm missing something (very very possible)

Edit: checked TD and they are almost the same price but only because the 860 is more expensive on their site then on NCIX.

Edit: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Produc...115213&cm_re=intel_870-_-19-115-213-_-Product is another matter entirely

Check out the chart in this AT article, Intel recently changed their pricing on the 860 and 870. For $10 difference I think it is a no-brainer. Looks like some vendors are still trying to get rid of older stock 870's at a higher price.

in reality I will likely still order from NCIX but yes your totally right very worth it and I should be able to price check no problem.
