New build

Hey guys, I'm looking to build a new computer and get a be able to play games on it like CoDMW2 on MAX or at least pretty damn good no hiccups.

Here is what I am coming from

-AMD X2 4400+ 4.2 ghz
- 2gigs random Corsair ram
-evga 7800GT
-Random 450watt PSU
-socket 939 mobo

So I am starting my new one in a new tower. My old tower was decent, but I don't think it did much to dampen sound. I purchases a Coolermaster HAF922 for my new build. In the end I would like it to be pretty quiet too. I figure that I will keep my old tower as it is and just use the peripherals and monitor for my new build, but have that one around and maybe get a new monitor for it later or whatever.

The other day I got an OCZ 700watt PSU (OCZ OCZ700GXSSLI-B) and it came with a disc drive.

So right now I'm looking at

Coolermaster HAF 922
OCZ 700watt PSU
Asus DRW-24B1ST SATA 24X DVDR-W

I know there are a lot of PSU/mobo combos- I am looking for something cheap. The way I see it, it won't be very hard to top my old build. I want to keep the cost AS LOW AS POSSIBLE (hence the items I have so far have been purchased on sales and stuff).

So for CPU I was looking into the AMD X2 5000. It is 2.2ghz... which is less than what Icurrently have, a 2.4ghz X2 4400+ from a few years ago. But 5000 isa higher number? I also heard it overclocks easily and it has the ability to unlock 2 more cores.

Still, Fry's sometimes has combo deals on mobo+CPU and intel stuff. I dunno if an intel i3 would be better? I also need shipping on Fry's since none are nearby...

Any input?

Thanks

I'm looking to spend $300-350 on the MOBO+CPU+GPU

I will either reuse my current hard drives and stuff or purchase them when I See a weekend sale some time.

If you can re-use your DDR2 then you might be able to get a nice CPU + MB combo but that would still leave you little for a decent GPU

EDIT: Oops, yes, 939 socket is DDR1 - thanks mfenn! Sorry fantolay, you cannot re-use your DDR1 unless you get a "high end" 939 chip which IMO wouldn't be worth it.

You've got a Socket 939 board, which means you have DDR1 RAM. You won't be able to reuse that I'm afraid.

How about:
5770 $150 AR
2GB DDR3 $65
AM3 Mobo $60
Athlon II X3 440 $75
Total $350

The mobo has 4 DIMM slots, so you'll be able to throw another 2GB of DDR3 in there when you feel the need.

Can you unlock the fourth core on that? I really don't know much about the difference between a triple core and quad core processor- only that even numbers sound more balanced lol.

I believe that you can only unlock the Phenom X2 and X3 and not the Athlons. I picked the X3 440 because it is the most you can get for your budget. IMO the 3rd core is worthwhile if you can't afford a full-on quad.

EDIT: I was wrong, you can unlock the Athlon II X3.
