I'm thinking about upgrading my platform and that means I need to look into DDR2 or other. I don't know what the sweet spot for gaming performance memory speeds are these days. First of all I'm looking at AMD's new 9850 quad. I'm into UT3 these days and the game runs better on quad cores so that's where I'm headed. I'm not too sure which of the intel MB chipsets to go for with an intel build, or the CPU's for that matter. TBH, my old i850 chipset has been the most stable experience. If I went the Intel route, i'd first be interested in knowing the phase power design for motherboard recommendations; but that could lead to more money for a higher end board ...but will consider. But as of right now I was thinking since the 9850 isn't that great of an overclocker, the phase power design isn't that important and a relatively inexpensive MB with just a phase 4 + power design would be fine. I'm looking to keep it under 500$ with the pain starting out at over the 400$ mark.

I'll probably unload my current platform: CPU, MB & Ram

I am also looking for memory recommendations also. I've seen DDR2 PC8500 @ 5.5.5.15 2Gb for as low as 30$ but I'm looking for Fast & Stable memory with overclocking potential.

I've posted this also in the memory section and haven't gotten any responses so excuse me if i post this here, thanks.

Thanks for your time :)

sorry i just had to say what a very interesting name!

This kinda question belongs in the General hardware section.

Use the sticky fill out the form and then have the people there assist you. You'll get better and accurate help there.

But if your asking me, nothing will be beat a Q6600 in terms of value/overclocking.
